ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Today: Hints, Spangrams and Answers for Wednesday, December 25With Eric Cain

Christmas is over. The fat goose is probably dead and eaten. The old man has a few pennies left in his hat, though they will probably be spent before the new year. The mistletoe has served its purpose. All three ships have sunk. 2025 is about to start. And we have a grid of Strands to unravel and words to uncover!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spagram that crosses from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.

Spoiler ahead.

Today’s tips for strands

Today’s topic: Related link

Hint #1: More like relatives.

Tip #2: Just not immediate family.

To help you discover all the words, here are the first two letters of every word, including the spangram.

Remember, spoilers ahead!

What are the answers of today’s Strands?

Today’s spangram is: REUNION

Here is the full list of words:

  • NIECE
  • GRANDCHILD
  • NEPHEW
  • UNCLE
  • AUNT
  • COUSIN
  • LEGAL

Here is the completed Strands grid:

Today’s analysis of the legs

“Link” threw me into it for a spell. Clever to use the subject to misdirect, as “relative” is too on the nose. Once I found the aunt and uncle, however, it was pretty easy to put the rest together. I wish the spangram was FAMILYREUNION instead of just REUNION, which was kind of a cop out. I think the hardest of all these words was INLAW, which I looked at for the longest time (having already acquired an aunt and cousin) and still couldn’t untangle in my head. I had to type the letters and as soon as I did I saw the word.

How did you do in your Strands today? Please let me know Twitter and Facebook.
