Hello, Connectors! Welcome to my deepest dive into today Connections answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn’t sure how the current teams match up.
If I missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, please let me know via email or Discord. I don’t usually look at X or check the comments here.
I’m going to assume you’ve already won today’s game. let’s go straight into the spoiler area here. Well, consider this your only warning.
Here are today’s NYT links explained answers (and any red herrings I spotted) for Friday July 24:
Today’s NYT Connections Answers Explained
Connections – Yellow Team

Connections – Green Team
Batter Scores (HOME RUN, SINGLE, STRIKEOUT, WALK)
A batter scores one ONLY when he hits the ball and reaches first base safely.
If a pitcher throws four balls that are out of bounds over home plate and the batter does not swing at any of them, the latter earns a WALK. That means they can go to first base. If a player is already on first base when the batter earns a walk, he moves to second base and so on.
Sometimes, the defensive team will allow an intentional WALK if they think it will be easier to put out the next batter in the lineup. They would prefer to avoid the risk of the current batter hitting the ball and potentially scoring, especially if there are already players on base.
A batter will have a STRIKEOUT if he swings and misses three pitches, or if three pitches hit the valid strike zone and do not swing.
On the other hand, they will score a HOME RUN if they hit the ball in such a way that they are able to circle the bases without the fielding team making an error. Usually, this means they hit the ball over the fence or wall at the back of the court.

To JOG or REFRESH (for example) your memory is to recall a memory or piece of information.

- CANTER > chanter
- FRYER > monk
- LLAMA > llama
- NONE > nun
Connections – Red Herrings
Connections often have a few red herrings. Let’s take a look at today’s (assuming I spotted one).

I was a bit concerned that there was a group of words associated with generative AI nonsense. People using chatbots can give them a PROMPT to get them to create things. LLAMA is a group of basic AI models created by Meta. SPARK is an artificial intelligence tool used on the GitHub developer platform.
I suspect I was overthinking it as a potential red herring, though. Too much space for this game. Unfortunately, I have to read about this gaffe every day, so it’s always on my mind. 😅
However, there was a clear red herring. WALK, RAMBLE, JOG and CANTER are all ways to move on foot.
