We have reached the end of the week and very close to the end of the year. Indeed, this will be my last Strands guide for 2024. I’m passing the torch to my colleagues Paul Tassi and Kris Holt, but I’ll be back in a few weeks. We have a fun Strands to solve today, so let’s go!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram spanning two sides of the board. One of these words is the spagram which crosses from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.
Spoiler ahead.
Today’s tips for strands

Hint #1: Think of a specific decade.
Tip #2: You might hear Bon Jovi or Madonna during this time period.
To help you discover all the words, here are the first two letters of every word, including the spangram.
Remember, spoilers ahead!

Today’s analysis of the legs
The style is cyclical and I guess the 80s are coming back in style with today’s trendy youth. I can never keep up with this time traveling nonsense. I found first the MULLET and then the NEON right below, so I looked for the spangram and quickly grabbed the EIGHTIES. The hard ones were SPANDEX—I kept watching SEX, of course—and WINDBREAKER, which I got at the end.
