Today’s AI is amazing – false like chatgpt can do things that seemed impossible just a few years ago.

But those of us who grew up seeing Star Trek, Blade Runner, or 2001: A Space Odyssey knows that it’s just the beginning.

Unlike AIS in these fantastic worlds, or even people, today’s AI cannot fully explore, interact and learn from the world. If it could, then just like supra-useful robot data in Star Trek (or in a human), he could learn how to solve any problem or do any job. Not only what was originally trained to do.

Some of AI’s leading researchers in the world, including Chatgpt Openai creators, believe that machine -building this smart, known as artificial general intelligence (AGI), is the chalice of AI growth. AGI would allow machines to “generalize” knowledge and handle almost any work a person can perform.

There are some pretty big problems to solve before we get there. Further discoveries in AI, huge quantities of investment and broad social change will need everything.

So here’s the collapse of the five biggest obstacles to overcome if we want to build the bright, fully automated future fueled by AI We promised us in movies (what could go wrong?)

1. Common logic and intuition

Today’s AI lacks the ability to fully explore and exploit the world in which it exists. As humans, we have adapted through evolution to be good at solving real world problems, using whatever tools and data we can. Machines do not – learn about the world through a distilled digital data, at any level of loyalty is possible, from the real world.

As humans, we create a “map” of the world that informs our understanding and, therefore, our ability to achieve duties. This map is informed by all our senses, all we learn, our innate beliefs and prejudices and everything we experience. Machines, analysis of digital data moving through networks or a collection of sensors, cannot yet bring this depth of understanding.

For example, with the Vision Computer, an AI can watch video videos in flight and learn a lot about them – perhaps their size, shape, type and behavior. But it is unlikely to realize that by studying their behavior, it can find how to fly and apply that learning in building flight engine building as people did.

Common sense and intuition are two aspects of intelligence that are still exclusively human and vital for our ability to browse ambiguity, chaos and opportunity. We will probably need to process their relationship with intelligence to a much greater depth before we reach AGI.

2. Transfer of learning

One of the innate abilities we have developed through the degree and range of our cosmic interactions is to obtain knowledge they learned from one project and its implementation to another.

Today’s AI is made for close tasks. A medical chatbot can be able to analyze scans, consult patients, evaluate symptoms and prescribe treatment. But ask to diagnose a broken refrigerator and it will be ignorant. Although both tasks are based on recognition of patterns and logical thinking, AI simply lacks the ability to process data in a way that will help it solve problems beyond what was explicitly trained to resolve.

People, on the other hand, can adapt their problem solving, reasoning and creative thinking in completely different areas. Thus, a human doctor, for example, can use their diagnostic reasoning to deal with a defective refrigerator, even without formal education.

In order for AGI to exist, AI must develop this ability – to apply knowledge to fields without requiring complete re -education. When AI can make these connections without having to re -establish a whole new database, we will be one step closer to true general intelligence.

3. The herbal gap

We people interconnect with the world through our senses. Machinery should use sensors. The difference is re -reduced to evolution, which has improved our ability to see, listen, leave, smell and taste in millions of years.

The machines, on the other hand, are based on the tools we give them. These may or not be the best way to gather the data they really need to solve problems in the best way. They can be interconnected with external systems in ways we allow – whether they are digitally via API or of course via robotics. But they do not have a standard set of tools that can be adapted to be suitable for interacting with any aspect of the world in the way we have our hands and feet.

Interacting with the natural world in the most sophisticated way as possible – to help with manual labor, for example, or to access a computer system that has not been given specific access – will require AI that is able to bridge this gap. We can see this formation in early repetitions of AI tools such as AI tools such as Operatorwhich uses vision on the computer to understand websites and access to external tools. However, more work will have to be done so that the machines can explore independently, understand and interconnect with physical and digital systems before AGI become more than a dream.

4. The scalable dilemma

The amount of data and processing power required to train and then develop even today’s AI models are huge. But the amount needed to achieve AGI, according to our current understanding, could be exponentially larger. There are already concerns about AI’s energy footprint and more and more infrastructure will need to support this ambition. Whether to invest in the necessary degree will be largely dependent on AI companies that prove to be able to win a ROI with previous generations of AI technology (such as the Genai wave, many companies are currently surfing.)

According to some experts, we are already seeing reducing returns from simply throwing more power and data in the problem of building the smartest AI. The latest updates in Chatgpt – the models’ omni series – as well as the recently revealed Challenger Deepseek, have focused on adding logic and logic potential. This has the compromise of the demand for more power during the conclusions phase, when the tool is in the hands of a user and not in the training stage. Whatever the solution, the fact that AGI is likely to require the power of processing in size greater than those available now is another reason that is not already here.

5. Issues of trust

It is a non -technological obstacle, but this does not make it a less problem. The question is, even if technology is ready, it is society ready to accept people to be replaced by machines to the most capable, smart and adaptable entities on the planet?

A very good reason they may not do this would be because the machinery (or those that create them) have not yet achieved the required level of trust. Think about how the appearance of natural languages, Genai Chatbots caused shock of shocks, as we came to an agreement with the consequences of everything, from jobs to human creativity. Now imagine how much more fear and concern there will be when the machines that can think about themselves and hit us in almost anything.

Today, many AI systems are “black boxes”, which means we have a very little idea of ​​what is happening within them or how they work. For society to trust the AI ​​enough to let it make decisions for us, AGI systems should be both explained and responsible at today’s level beyond today’s AI systems.

So will we ever get to Agi?

These are the five most important challenges that AI’s best researchers in the world are trying to break today as AI companies are fighting for AGI’s goal. We don’t know how long it will take them to get there and the winners may not be the ones who are in the leader today, near the start of the race. Other emerging technologies, such as quantum computing or new energy solutions, could provide some of the answers. But there will be a need for human cooperation and supervision at the level beyond what we have seen so far whether AGI is going to safely lead to a new era of more powerful and useful AI.
