Spotify has launched a major fitness category, which precedes a partnership with Peloton that gives subscribers access to over 1,400 workout videos.

Fitness videos are joining podcasts and audiobooks as another content stream to prevent competition and declining subscribers.

The videos are accessed as part of Spotify’s new Fitness hub. You can access the Spotify app either by searching for “fitness” in the search bar or by tapping the Fitness shortcut in the search tab.

Many of the sessions are full video workouts and subtitles are also offered. Or if you’re already well-acquainted with the movements involved, you could treat them as audio-only sessions.

There are also running workouts, which are presented as audio-only episodes.

Other categories include Yoga, Pilates & Barre, Cardio, Meditation and Strength.

Peloton offered a basic free tier that provided a limited set of video workouts, but that was discontinued in 2024. New users are now offered a 30-day trial of its two paid subscriptions, App One and App+. It proves there’s real value in this new Spotify tie-in for home exercisers.

However, there’s nothing quite like the added smarts of a real Peloton membership, which supports importing stats from third-party wearables and fitness equipment.

While the Peloton integration is the main addition here, Spotify Fitness also offers “creator” workouts from channels like Jordan Yeoh Fitness, Move With Katharine, and Lindsey Bomgren.

“We’re expanding Spotify to become a true daily wellness companion. By bringing Peloton directly into our video and audio ecosystem, we’re investing in a future where Spotify isn’t just where you spend your time – it’s where you go to boost your well-being and get more out of every day,” says Roman Wasenmüller, Spotify Globalcast.

While Peloton is a great platform, its most recent years have seen the company deal with security recalls and the reality of dealing with the consequences of an incredible and unsustainable growth period during the Covid lockdowns.

Peloton was founded in 2012 and released its first bike in 2014 after a kickstarter in 2013. It now also offers a treadmill and rowing machine, as well as a greater focus on general workouts and wellness.

Spotify Premium currently costs $12.99 per month in the US for a single subscription.
