Strands

NYT

Looking for Wednesday Strands tips, spingrams and answers? You can find them here:

ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Hints, Spangram and Answers for Tuesday November 5thWith Paul Tassey

After Election Day, you might want to either celebrate with some Strands or escape reality with him for a few minutes. So there you go.

How to play Strands

The New York Times Strands puzzle is a take on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There’s a new Strands game to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight letter grid. The goal is to find a group of words that have something in common and you’ll get an idea of what that topic is. When you find a topic word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You will also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram connects two opposite sides of the board. While thematic words would not be a proper name, spangram might be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Be warned: You should be alert.

“Some topics are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They can also be steps in a process, elements that all belong to the same category, synonyms, or consonants,” notes the New York Times. “Like changing the difficulty of Wordle puzzles in a week, [Wordle and Strands editor Tracy] Bennett plans to throw Strands solvers curves every now and then.”

What is today’s Strands Hint?

The NYT hint is first and then I’ll give you one of my own that I think will help you further. The official hint is:

Extremely Online

Mine is too

Internet Actions

I think that’s probably enough to get you started.

What are the answers of today’s Strands?

Time for the answers of the day and spoilers will follow, so be careful. We’ll start with spangram and go from there. The spangram is:

SOCIAL MEDIA

And here it is on the board:

Strands

NYT

The answers are:

  • LIKE
  • COMMENT
  • FOLLOW
  • REPORT
  • TWEET
  • POSITION
  • SHARE

Strands

NYT

So these are all essentially “actions” you take online, buttons to click on social media that allow you to post or interact with a post. The only thing I could think of that didn’t make the list was REGISTER, but I guess that was probably too long for such a small board. I also love that TWEET is still there even though Elon Musk renamed it X and you shouldn’t say that anymore.
