Today’s NYT Strands Hints and Answers

Looking for Friday’s Strands tips, spangles and answers? You can find them here:

ForbesToday’s NYT “Strands” Hint, Spangram, and Answers for Friday, July 5thWith Paul Tassey

Welcome back, Strandistarians! It’s my first day writing this guide three weeks ago, with my colleagues Kris Holt and Paul Tassi taking the proverbial baton for weeks when I’m not writing myself. Yay for teamwork!

This is also the first Strands guide I’m writing after the app was included in the New York Times games/app section, having been in beta until this point. Welcome to all you new Strands players, whom I refer to as various forms of Stranders, Stranded, Stradistas and so on.

If you play Worlde, I cover this game every day so make sure you do follow me here on this blog so you never miss a post, all witty, sexy and wonderful. I’m very humble, if you haven’t noticed.

How to play Strands

The New York Times Strands puzzle is a take on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day. Keep playing, in other words. It’s our collective mission to keep this game alive and ported to the app!

There’s a new Strands game to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight letter grid. The goal is to find a group of words that have something in common and you’ll get an idea of what that topic is. When you find a topic word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You will also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram connects two opposite sides of the board. While thematic words would not be a proper name, spangram might be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Strands still not in the new york times game app but you can play it here.

What is today’s Strands Hint?

Scroll slowly! Right after the hint for today Strands puzzle, I will reveal what the answer words are.

The official topic hint for today Thread the puzzle is: Say something

Here’s an extra hint to guide you through the solution: Words that describe communication

What are the answers of today’s Strands?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to learn today’s Strands answers.

Today’s Spangram

I’ll tell you the spangram first and show you where it is on the grid. Then I’ll tell you the other words and show you how they go together.

This is your last warning!

Today’s Strands spangram is . . .

MARINE LIFE

Here is Spangram on the grid:

All the answers of today’s legs

I will give some hints for each word before showing the answers as some of them were quite difficult while others were easy as pie. I’ll just give the first two letters of each word so you can try to guess them first:

If you need additional help, spoilers below!

Here is the full list of words:

  • TALK
  • MARK
  • UTTER
  • I SPEAK
  • EXPRESS
  • SAY
  • DECLARE

Today’s analysis of the legs

Surprisingly, the top half of the grid today was very easy for me, while the bottom half confused me. I got TALK almost immediately followed by SIGN. Then I spotted ARTICULATION – the spangram – almost immediately, before finding UTTER and SPEAK.

After that I got confused. The X threw me off, as did the two S’s that I knew had to be the end of a word. Once I finally teased EXPRESS, TELL was pretty obvious, but even knowing I only had one word left, it took me a while to figure out DECLARE. Overall, a very good puzzle today!

How did you do in your Strands today? Inform me Twitter and Facebook.

Be sure to check out my blog for my daily Wordle guides as well as all my other writing about TV shows, streaming guides, movie reviews, video game coverage and more. Thanks for stopping by!
