Kevin Conroy’s final words as Batman are just perfect

Batman

DC

Everyone is still mourning the death of Kevin Conroy, the eternal voice of animated Batman across dozens of projects and many decades. The actor died in 2022 from cancer.

However, as voice actors are wont to do, Conroy had recorded quite a few unreleased projects even in the last couple of years pouring out. There was a big point of controversy when it first appeared that his final performance could be as the “evil Batman” in the poorly reviewed Harley Quinn-executed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game, but that doesn’t seem to be the case the case. Probably no, by no means.

Instead, it is believed to be Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three. And his last lines in that movie are almost too perfect:

“I care about the Joker. About Gotham, about Justice, And if it has to end, at least I’m going out like this… I’m Batman.”

And his final act is punching Mark Hamill’s Joker in the face one last time, as he should.

However, I wonder if this is Actually Conroy’s last role and line, or if… we’re back in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League again. I don’t think this is on anyone’s radar as I’m pretty sure I’m the only person still remotely paying attention to the game.

Yes, Conroy voiced the evil, now-dead Batman in Suicide Squad. This game failed miserably, but still spawns seasonal content, pushing the story further. A basic thread of this season’s story is that the Justice League is either not dead or not dead, as the next season is supposed to bring back the “good” Flash, with an obvious, longer-term story economy the original Justice League instead of putting a bullet in the brain of the entire Arkhamverse.

Suicide Squad

WB

It doesn’t seem likely that Suicide Squad will continue to make content for the past four seasons in its first year. However, further rumors are that by the time we get to Season 4, the final season of the year when Deathstroke arrives, we may see more of Batman, returning to “normal” form as part of the Save the JLA storyline.

We don’t know that this is a fact. We are not aware of Conroy pre-recording lines for seasonal content. We don’t know if Rocksteady may choose to change anything after his death. But the possibility is there, that the last we hear of Conroy may be in a season of Suicide Squad that almost no one would play.

Let’s stick to the infinite earths line, shall we?
