Exactly four years from today – on Friday, April 13, 2029 – an asteroid as wide as the Empire State building is widely come closer to Earth than geographical satellites in a very rare event. Apophis will not affect the Earth, but could the extremely close to save the problem for the future? If so, Close Pass is an opportunity to concentrate critical data on the future of mankind.

The impression of the artist for the rapid mission Apophis for ESA (Ramses) safety, which will connect … more with the asteroid apophis and accompanies it through the extremely rare Flyby of Earth in April 2029.

Basic events

Asteroid 99942 Apophis (named for the god of chaos in ancient Egypt) is a 1,100 -foot space (340 meter) width of 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) of our planet.

If Apophis struck the Earth, it could spread the destruction within hundreds of miles, according to Space.comkilling millions of people if a very densely populated metropolitan area hit.

At a gathering of scientists this week in Tokyo, Japan, the plans were presented during the APOPHIS T-4 year old workshop For radar observations before, during and after approach, with a summary Describing the close meeting as an opportunity for an “opportunity for physical science once per thousand years”.

According to NasaWhen Apophis was discovered in 2004, scientists estimated that he could hit Earth in 2029, 2036 or 2068. His orbit has sometimes been refined and, as is the case, we are safe – for the time being.

However, it is likely that the gravitational effect on Apophis on Earth on April 29, 2029, could force its trajectory to change slightly and risk in the future. So a random encounter with another asteroid in a deep space.

At the moment, its future orbit is unknown, but scientists are sure of one thing – we need to use its close newsletter in 2029 to study it closely. After all, in 2060 or 2068, one day he could respond to the monument of “God of Chaos”.

What will Sky-Watchers see on April 13 2029

Asteroid 99942 Apophis (named for the god of chaos in ancient Egypt) is a 1,100 -foot space (340 meter) width of 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers) of our planet.

“On April 13, 2029, the whole earth will be watching,” says a summary of Richard Binzel, Professor of Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and The Inventor Turin scale This categorizes the risk of impact on objects near Earth. “Apophis will be visible to the naked eye that accelerates the evening sky for about two billion people covering Western Europe and West Africa.”

Could NASA divert an asteroid?

Already has. In October 2022, the NASA Double Asteroid Redirection Test (the DART-The First Full Planetary Shipment of the World-Hey of a 500kg spacecraft in a binary asteroid 65803 Didymos and the Moonlet Dimorphos at 15,000 miles per hour.

Shipments to Apophis

The Ramses Apophis Mission (RAMSES) will probably start in the spring of 2028 and reach Apophis in February 2029, shortly before his close meeting with the Earth. This will give scientists about how Apophis interacts with the gravity of the Earth – “A rare natural experiment that may not appear again for thousands of years,” according to another summary – And how it changes naturally after the close meeting. NASA’s Osiris -apophis Explorer (APEX) will reunite with Apophis immediately after the Careful pass through Earth in 2029 and rotate it until November 2030 to see how its trajectory changes.
