Beyoncé doesn’t talk much, so when she does, people hear about it Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé it’s a big deal.
For nearly three decades, Beyoncé has built her career, brick by brick, through relentless grit and commitment to mastering her craft. In her recently released film, the “Break My Soul” singer is peeling back the layers to reveal to fans the levels of intense preparation that followed the Renaissance World Tour. The film is not only apologetic in its form. It’s a celebration of a global mega-superstar who knows that, in her own words, she has nothing more to prove because she’s paid her dues.
Like most previous Beyoncés documentary, This recent film highlights the tenacity that goes into her excellence, but also gives Viewers have an intimate front-row seat to the singer’s dedication to her craft — and her iron-clad work ethic.
In many ways, the Houston native shows how these elements have contributed to her impressive career development over the years, but it doesn’t stop there.
While the film captures long, hard, grueling hours of rehearsals combined with an unrelenting dedication to the show, the singer digs further beyond the surface and touches on her Blackness. In the documentary, Beyoncé shares that despite reaching the highest levels of success, she, like many black women, faces the challenge of feeling seen and heard. For Black women in positions of power, leadership can seem like a never-ending slippery slope of dealing with self-doubt that often mirrors society’s doubt about the reality of the Black woman.
More than anything else, Beyoncé validates the reality that no matter how brilliant, polished, or sophisticated black women present their ideas, thoughts, or beliefs in the workplace, there will almost always be outside voices to suggest them—and sometimes blatantly – forcing them to stifle voices, shrink or simply shut up. Beyoncé poignantly validates the harsh truth that no matter how well-articulated black women are, it’s often not enough.
This part of the movie was so riveting that Ava DuVernay took to Instagram share her thoughts in some moments that are revealed in the film.
However, at the core of the film is Beyoncé’s unparalleled artistry. The film seamlessly blends music, dance and cinema to create a glittering tapestry of key moments from the world tour that spanned the summer of 2023 and profoundly impacted the economy.
As usual, Queen Bey asserts herself as a leader and works with a team of visionary artists, including choreographers, costume designers and a top team to help bring her vision forward. The result is a cinematic experience that is both vivid and authentic.
If nothing else, the film is a revealing expression of how the Houston native has perfected her craft, always making sure to make each high-powered performance seem more effortless than the next. The film also reveals that the Renaissance era might just be its best, but such statements are hard to make, especially with a team led by an ever-evolving visionary like Beyoncé.
