It looks like we can’t go more than a day or two without some new Helldivers 2 mystery, as the GM-controlled game continues to roll out new live story content featuring the player base as its pawns, along with new additions in the game at the same time. Not the normal repair process, that’s for sure.
In the wake of Termicide’s successful development in the field of Umlaut, two new mysteries have emerged.
1. Blue rays are now visible, occasionally, falling from the sky. They almost look like strategic calldowns, but as far as we know, they’re not, and players are left wondering if this is some Automaton trick or even something from a new enemy faction on the verge of arrival. Of course, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt said both aren’t real and can’t hurt you.
2. For a short time, there was a player who was on Cyberstan, an already liberated planet in the Valdis sector. Even if something is under Super Earth’s control, you just can’t… go there, so everyone wonders who was there and why, with many speculating that GM Joel was up to something. If this was another planet, you might be able to dismiss it as just a bug.
But this is Cyberstan, home of the Cyborg nation that has an…interesting history. Here are some traditions:
“Cyberstan, home of the Cyborg nation, is a barren snowy wasteland on the galactic fringe. Whenever it is conquered by Super Earth, the Cyborgs are forcibly “democratized”, forced into the polls under the threat of losing their political rights. Super Earth’s Army Tactical Command always stations troops on the planet for a period of 5 years to “keep the peace and run government posts”, after which time the Cyborgs’ culture is supposed to have transformed into a “fully democratic” one (by Super standards of the earth). Meanwhile, the Super Earth Construction Company (SECC), a government contractor, takes over Cyberstan’s massive forges and industrial complexes. Eventually, inevitably, another bombing starts this whole cycle again.”
So, blue beams? Anyone hanging out in Cyberstan? This sounds like an organization for the next great order, and perhaps some kind of rebellion on the planet. As far as we know, the Automatons are creations or descendants of the Cyborgs, and I wonder if we’ll get completely new Cyborg units if Cyberstan is a plot point after all.
We’ll probably know by reset time next week, until then watch the sky for blue rays and keep an eye on Cyberstan for more sightings of Joel or whoever he is.
Modernize: Interestingly, the Cyberstan question came up literally three years ago when the game was releasing coded teasers online. There was a binary sequence that was deciphered by fans which appeared in:
“We, the collective from Cyberstan, unanimously claim our independence from Super Earth. We have the right to defend our home from the brainwashed Helldivers. Our children, the Automaton, will not suffer as we do under the oppression of Super Earth!”
This aligns with the idea that the remaining cyborgs are enslaved on Cyberstan, and I wonder if the new campaign will mean that the Automaton “children” will invade that planet and try to free them. Then, of course, you’re faced with the question of whether or not the Helldivers push it off, which would have two very different outcomes. And given the loss to Creek, it stands to reason that we could see some unleashed Cyborgs sometime soon.
Meanwhile, the blue beams could to be related to it, but it could also foreshadow the arrival of the Illuminate, a third alien faction that hasn’t made it to Helldivers 2 yet, but will surely come at some point. I wonder if Arrowhead will try to strike while the iron is hotter here and take out Illuminate before more players retire, but we’ll see.
