As American as encryption

As Americans use and gain encryption more than ever, celebrations of Independence Day are increasingly reflecting this trend. There is one Brand of fountain fireworks It is called “Crypto” and many retailers who feed customers’ plans on July 4 Now get the payment in encryption.

And it is a topic of conversation on July 4, as many reflect the freedoms that have fought from the founders. As Benzinga Crypto news website notes“While the day is of great importance to all Americans, the encryption community is very pleased with the connection of the day with the origin of Bitcoin, … which is rooted in economic independence from state -owned businesses.”

These Americans who encrypt a part of their vacation on July 4 are actually – if unknowingly – pay tribute to the innovative spirit of the founders of Fathers, in particular George Washington. Both the characteristics of encryption and the events that have fueled their growth would not be that foreign to the declaration of independence signatures, who would probably understand encryption better than today chatty class launching encryption as Americans in unnecessary risk or saying It has “no use”.

As I write in my book George Washington, Entrepreneur: How the private business aspirations of our founding father have changed America and the worldOur first president would have a special understanding and probably a love for encryption. In the book I write that Washington, as “a colleague who kept detailed books and used invisible ink”, will be “fascinated by encrypted books at the core of encryption and related blockchain technology, both promise new levels of protection and privacy”.

I show in my book that Washington, though she had no training in college, was a lifelong student, a greedy reader and a knowledge seeker. Use this knowledge from reading and listening to building several innovative businesses by a distillery of whiskey (rebuilding by the modern term Vernon in 2006) at the first MULE Player in the US

Washington was also a champion of early American inventors and emerging technologies of his time, such as the locomotive and hot air balloons. After listening to the new balloons that human beings could carry through the air over limited distances, Washington made an amazing prediction. He wrote in a letter that “our friends in Paris, in a short time, will come to fly in the air instead of plowing the ocean to reach America.” That he could envision long distance air travel before the invention of the railways depicts his foresight.

Thus, it is not a stretch to assume that Washington will distinguish the well -known properties in Crypto and to embrace technology or at least the freedom of Americans to use it. The three well -known properties that will probably recognize in encryption are encryption, books and private currency.

Encryption. The “crypt” in “Cryptocurrency” refers to cryptography and encryption. Cryptography and encryption were around Washington’s day and used them as a General of the Continental Army.

As those who have read Brian Kilmeade’s book and Don Yaeger’s Pathbreaking George Washington’s secret six or watched the AMC order Series They know, Washington and Culper’s espionage network used invisible ink to match. Washington has worked with doctor James Jay (brother of the future court of the Supreme Court John Jay) to develop one last ink that could only be visible using another chemical. Would also use Secret codes and cryptographers– Numbers to represent certain words – to communicate secret information. The recipient of the message will decode it with a “key” that fits these numbers with words, similar to the “private key” codes held by encryption recipients.

Catholicly. In encryption, blockchain acts as a distributed book, in which many users maintain encrypted files of a transaction. While Washington and its contemporaries had not yet found a distributed book and would not have the computer science to develop it even that they had, Washington kept sophisticated subscribers of its business trading almost all its life. As I note in my book: “From the age of 14, Washington maintained and maintained her … business books.” Today, many of these books are available on Mount Vernon’s website and shed light on many of his innovative business activities, including The whiskey distillery.

Issued private alternative money. As I note in the book, “the currency was always short in the colonies, as Britain had no national banks or mints to immediately issue its currency outside the parent country.” The settlers had a variety of exchange methods from foreign currency exchange, such as Spanish dollars. The tobacco warehouse evidence – Apparently issued notes that were good in several tobacco warehouses in all colonies and later the original American states – began to negotiate to buy other items. Became a currency of Washington Day.

As I point out in a paper For the competitive Institute of Business, the encryption merely “adds an electronic dimension to the privately published currency and brands that existed in much of world history, as various objects took on the role of money without the government playing too much, if there is a role.” Thus, Washington would recognize the use and need for privately published currency and possibly see encryption as an innovative and beneficial expansion of the private money released in its time.

Finally, Washington and others of the founders could probably see the benefits of decentralized encryption as a mechanism for protecting freedom, given its arbitrary actions Freezing bank accounts taken from our neighbors to the north. In his farewell address, which was issued near the end of his presidency in 1796, Washington warned of the “spirit of violation” that “tends to consolidate the powers of all sections in one and thus create, regardless of the form of government, a real despotism”.

Given the warning it issued, it is not a stretch to complete Washington, he would agree with this statement on the encryption by PJ O’Rourke, a national treasure who died very soon in 2022. said In a Cato Institute forum in 2018, “I am much more worried about the government that abuses its police powers than I am for people who abuse their purchasing powers.

John Berlau is a senior colleague and director of economic policy at The Competitive Institute of Business and author of the book George Washington, Entrepreneur: How the private business aspirations of our founding father have changed America and the world.

Harrison Cerone, a research partner at the Institute of Competitive Enterprises, has contributed to this article.
