In case you missed Wednesday’s NYT mini crossword, you can find the answers here:
Wednesday was the first day back to school for my kids and the first day of middle school for my youngest. This doesn’t make me feel old in the slightest. Not even a little! The school itself was a bit of a puzzle today though as they changed their schedule at the last minute and we had to rush to try and salvage what we could. Juggling classes with the counselor—while the line of disgruntled students and parents, all with similar problems, gathered behind us—was definitely a type of puzzle I don’t care to repeat.
What I will repeat, day after day, is the New York Times mini crossword.
Mini is a smaller, faster, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT crossword, and unlike its bigger sibling, it’s free to play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or in the app, though you’ll need the app to deal with the file.
A few tips for the die-hards in case you don’t just want the answers right away:
- 1 Across — Pirates will ask you to do this on the decks.
- 5 Across — Also known to come from witches.
- 8 Opposite — Better than a peso.
- 1 Down — Sells shells down
- 3 Down — These are two words merged.
- 5 Down — Think bicycles.
While some of today’s words are quite simple, some may confuse you. You will find the answers below. Obviously, spoilers. Go ahead for today’s solved puzzle image.
ACROSS
1. Q-tip, for example — SWAB
5. Dangle Bracelet — CHARM
6. Crown Logo Precision Watchmaker — ROLEX
7. Rubbing the wrong way — IRKS
8. Spanish for kiss — BESO
BELOW
1. Place to find shells — COAST
2. “She really enjoys ____ “at the beach” — RIDE
3. Answer “I’m not!” — LIKE (So is!”)
4. Stunt sports, for short — BMX
5. Bed with blanket — CRIB
This was hard for me because I was very committed to BEACH for 1 DOWN. Never, ever over-commit (unless you’re in love, and even then be careful!) It wasn’t until I tried to put ROLEX into this equation that I realized something was wrong. Once I was able to work from the expensive watch, things slowly came to light. I knew Spanish for kiss-dam un beso-and slowly the other dominoes fell.
