The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s longest running crossword puzzle. Most days, there are three to five clues in each direction on a five-by-five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.
Unlike its older sibling, the NYT Mini the crossword puzzle is free to play at New York Times website or the NYT Games app. However, you will need a NYT Games subscription to access past puzzles in the archives.

He took me 2:44 to complete today’s NYT Mini.
As you might have gathered by my time, this was difficult for me! I didn’t get anything at all on my first pass through the Across items (though KELP was on the tip of my tongue). All I got on my first crack at Down was SKIP and TLC. These helped me figure out RELIC, which meant 3 Down had to be RALLY and not my original thought of STUMP.
KELP and SLY were next and I was able to get both 1 Across and Down. This left me with a letter that I could not understand for the life of me for a painfully long time. I finally concluded that it was “F” to let me complete OF ALL, I FEEL and the grid as a whole. Phew.
