Topshot – Protesters holding signs and flags face members of the California National Guard … more Guard outside the federal building as they protest in response to Federal Migration Enterprises in Los Angeles on June 9, 2025. US President Donald Trump on June 9 ordered active seafarers in Los Angeles, swearing that the arrests would “be struck”. Protests in Los Angeles, hosting a large Latino population, broke out on June 6, caused by raids of immigration that resulted in dozens of arrests for the principles that say they are illegal immigrants and gang members. In recent weeks, the suppression of Los Angeles immigration has become the focus of a dangerous national experiment – one in which the imposition of immigration serves as a pretext for something much more ominous: a steady descent to a possible military law. The development of the US military forces in California without the commander’s consent, the violent scanning of immigration raids and the armament of emergency powers signify that the constitutional order is under siege.

Use of national guards and seafarers

President Donald Trump’s decision to send 4,000 troops and marines of the National Guard in California met with rage from state leaders and legal experts. California Governor Gavin Newsom has called on the action “illegal, unethical and unconstitutional”, and the state has filed a lawsuit against the federal government, referring to violations of the US Federal Code, which prohibit the federal state or by the federal state. Laws. None of these conditions apply in this case.

However, the justification offered by the administration – that Los Angeles was on the brink of collapse due to immigrants’ protests – is so false and inflammatory as it turned out in a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel, which showed videos from the quiet streets. After a series of ice raids holding over 100 people, they complain all over the city. While the Los Angeles Police Department said the demonstrations were largely peaceful, their federal officials were surrounding them as acts of uprising.

Is the system really under threat?

In television comments, President Trump, without evidence, said that Los Angeles would have been “completely eliminated” without military intervention. However, some legal scholars point out that these allegations are reminiscent of how the emperors have historically constructed judgments to exploit power. For example, in comments recently made by the historian Yale Timothy Snyder, he warned: “Be wary of paramilitaries. When men with weapons claim to be against the system, the system is threatened.”

Warning signs

These warning signs are increasing. Earlier this year, President Trump folded a national emergency on the southern border, significantly intensifying deportation efforts, especially in the jurisdictions of the sanctuaries. Internal Security Minister Kristi Noem claims that these efforts are vital National Security. However, critics argue that raids are politically motivated, intended to motivate chaos and testing the limits of the presidential power.

This is not a mere guess. There have been calls for the arrest of the Newsom Governor for the defense of the troops – an idea that would equivalent to criminalizing the political opposition. The consequences are cold.

The big beautiful account

Meanwhile, at Capitol Hill, Republicans are struggling to go through what Trump has called his “big, beautiful bill”, an extensive legislative package that includes, among other things, includes Over $ 46 billion to fund the wall and ice. The administration utilizes the turmoil in Los Angeles to promote the hesitant GOP senators to fall on the line. The proposed bill also imposes an asylum fee of $ 1,000 – an unprecedented obstacle to the legal refuge – and billions of billions of new border and customs agents. These are not just political choices. They are tools of exclusion and intimidation. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), a leading voice about legislation, actively urges his colleagues to use Los Angeles’ protests as proof because Ice and border suppression require even greater support.

Parade

In addition to Capitol Hill, the cultural symbolism of this displacement is equally revealing. Trump announced a huge military parade in Washington, DC, dating to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the US Army – and his own birthday. With the tanks, the Howitzers and the Cruise Rocket launchers on the screen, the spectacle is designed to cause power. But it also reflects the authoritarian aesthetics of regimes such as Russia and North Korea. The question is, where is all this?

Rebellion concern?

During his first term of office, Trump was discouraged by the coating of Rebellion During the George Floyd protests only after senior military officials were opposed. This time, with the faithful appointed to key positions, these checks seem to be absent. Historically, there is a dangerous precedent for all this. In 1933, Adolf Hitler used Reichstag Fire to suspend political freedoms and consolidate power. Legal analysts are increasingly planning comparisons between this moment and today’s continuing use of emergency powers in the name of immigration control. “If you saw all this in any other country – the soldiers sent to crush the disagreement, the leaders of the unions were arrested, opposition politicians threatened – it would be clear that the Empire arrived,” said Constitutional Law Professor Laurence.

Even technological tycoons play a role. Elon Musk, who now holds X (former twitter), has eliminated the greatest moderation of contentEnhancement of rhetorical polarizing and misinformation. Its platform has become a megaphone for conspiracy theories that depict immigrants as invaders and critics as traitors. Under all these alarming developments in the suppression of immigrants lies a key question: the United States is still a democracy governed by political law or is it a military state ruled by executive whims?

The courts as the last line of defense

Courts may still provide a line of defense. California’s lawsuit on unauthorized development of federal troops will test the willingness of the judiciary to support the Constitution. However, history teaches us that legal battles alone cannot protect democracy when the institutions coexist or erode. What unfolds is more than just a dispute over immigration policy. This is a test of anxiety of America’s democratic fabric. The use of immigration raids to justify military actions, the demonization of peaceful protests and the integration of emergency powers – these are not isolated events. Form a pattern.

Confrontation

While Americans appear to be divided into the issue of military use in the suppression of Los Angeles immigration, half in favor and the other half, especially the Californians, oppose June 14, 2025, the “National Day of Action of the Kings” promises to be a basic day, that day. While this unfolds, Trump will head to Canada to attend the G-7 meeting while watching the events back home. In the meantime, the fate of democracy may depend on whether Trump builds a wall, but whether the Americans allow it to disassemble the walls of constitutional restraint in the name of its construction.
