If you want to hang out with a great group and chat about Connections, alternate daily puzzles, the World Cup and more, join our Discord community!

Hello, Connectors! The weekend is sad. Let’s make sure you reach it with yours Connections streak intact.

My Canada Day was very strange and unfortunate. My building’s fire alarm went off four times in about six hours, which completely interrupted my day. After the last one I decided I needed a bit of a pick me up so I ventured out to a pub for a bit.

When I got home the fire alarm business seemed to be settled. However, I had another problem to deal with as the heat pump in my apartment was leaking. Very unfortunate thing to happen during a heat wave! I’m mopping up all the water I can find and I’ll have to get my landlord or building manager to check it out (and fix something else I wanted them to see).

What a day. I think I deserve a week off to recover from all this.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Friday July 3rd coming soon. Let’s roll!

NYT Links – How to Play

Connections it’s free New York Times daily word game you can play on NYTthe Games website or app. If you have a NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access Connections file, which includes every previous game.

Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The goal is to sort them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the class is for each team: that’s what you have to figure out.

There is only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess wrong three times. Fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to gather, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, yellow and green groups have synonyms, blues have cultural references, and purples involve some sort of wordplay. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.

As with me Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game also tracks your progress.

Many players pride themselves on having long winning streaks or having a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow teams with this streak without mistakes. This adds an extra little challenge.

The first thing I had to do with this grid was figure out what GOLF ACCESSORY could be referring to. It couldn’t be a ball or a club, as those are essential pieces of equipment. I guess it would be a t-shirt too, but that’s where I landed, which helped me figure out the purples.

Next came the greens. No problem there. I wasn’t sure where FELICITY would fit, but once I realized how the blues went together, it didn’t matter. This is win 488 in the pour moi series.

How did you do this time? Here is my grid:

🟪🟪
🟩
🦟
🨟🨟

Want to know more about how it all fits together? Let’s explore today’s game in more depth in mine NYT links Answers Explained column. You can check it up visit my author page.

This brings up my current daily course Connections hints and answers at the end. I’ll be back with you for more on Monday. Meanwhile, you can read my weekend editions of this column in my newsletter, Hobby.

PS Since it’s now normally summer in the northern hemisphere, let’s go with an S-tier summer song today. It’s “Today” by The Smashing Pumpkins. I guess I think of it as a summer track because of the music video. But it’s pretty fantastic no matter when you hear it:

Good day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

Please follow my blog for more NYT links hints and help with other word games and even some video game news, information and analysis. It helps me a lot! Share this column with other people playing Connections will also be appreciated.
