LG’s latest product announcement ahead of CES 2025 continues the big screen theme that is already shaping up to be one of the show’s key trends. Only this time instead of the big images coming from king-size TVs, they come from impressively small projectors. In fact, in the case of LG’s new CineBeam S, they come from what LG claims is the smallest 4K ultra-small projection projector on the market.
Despite weighing just 2.5kg and measuring just 110(w) x 160(d) x 160(h)mm, the CineBeam S (aka PU615U) is capable of producing images as large as 100 inches from a distance throw of just a few inches. Additionally, the RGB laser-powered display system is claimed to deliver 3840×2160 resolution images with an impressive 500 ANSI Lumens of brightness and an even more promising 450,000:1 contrast ratio.
Featuring a minimalist metallic finish, the CineBeam S blends in with modern interiors while being rich … [+]
The CineBeam S can apply these impressive specs for such a small projector to HDR signals (both HDR10 and HLG formats are supported) as well as SDR, and is said to be able to reproduce 154 percent of the DCI-P3 color space used for handling most HDR content.
As well as being extremely small, the CineBeam S enhances its lifestyle appeal with a minimalistic metallic finish and features automatic screen adjustment, wall color adjustment and screen scaling/shifting for the easiest possible installation in any of your rooms. they want to use it in.
It has built-in stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos decoding, so you don’t always have to find an external sound system to use on movie nights. In fact, you can watch movies and TV shows on it without even having to connect an external source thanks to the built-in smart LG WebOS system, with its support for all the most popular video streaming services in the world.
Even if you want to use an external source, like a 4K Blu-ray player or games console, the projector has an HDMI port — as well as support for wireless playback from both Android and iOS devices.
The PF600U, with its 3-in-1 functionality, is a CES Innovation Award winner,
LG’s other new CES projector announcement is the PF600U, which despite its rather bland name is actually a pretty unique proposition. LG describes it as “a versatile 3-in-1 lifestyle companion for everyday spaces” — a description it lives up to by combining basic projector functionality with the ability to double as an LED mood lamp and Bluetooth music speaker.
Its design also reflects its unusual versatility, with its pendant style – clearly inspired by floor lamps – making it easy to integrate into almost any space.
Its stereo speaker setup manages to incorporate passive radiators despite the projector’s compact form factor, helping it deliver a richer, more rounded and therefore more immersive sound, while the LED mood lamp function is capable of enhancing your room’s ambiance with nine colors and five brightness levels.
The PF600U’s 110-degree tilting head and auto screen adjustment feature makes it easy to set up and … [+]
The PF600U’s increased focus on versatility means it’s not as well-specified for stills as the CineBeam S. Its optical LED system only supports Full HD (1920×1080) resolution instead of 4K, its brightness is rated at 300 ANSI lumens instead of 500. and the its contrast ratio is listed at 150,000:1 instead of 450,000:1. It still supports HDR10 and HLG playback, however, and since it’s not a UST model, it’s rated as capable of delivering a 120-inch image — 20 inches more than the CineBeam S. Adjusting the image is easy, too. with an automatic screen adjustment function and the ability of the projector to tilt 110 degrees on its base.
As with the CineBeam S, the PF600U also features LG’s smart webOS system, meaning you can once again stream movies and TV shows to the projector instead of having to connect an external source. Although, like the CineBeam S, the PF600U’s 7.5kg, 290(w) c 290(d) x 983(h)mm form factor has an HDMI port, as well as support for wireless sharing of content from Android or iOS devices.
LG hasn’t announced pricing for its two new home entertainment projectors at the time of writing, but if that comes up during CES next week, I’ll update this story accordingly.
