It looks like we know what Destiny 2’s three post-final format episodes are about

While all eyes are on The Final Shape, Destiny 2’s concluding ‘Light and Darkness’ expansion, Bungie has at least given us enough information to know that they aren’t doing anything drastic like halting development on the game, recent issues or not. .

We’re headed to a new non-seasonal format that’s still… kind of seasonal, but with three rather than four of them and larger, more substantial stretches of content. But at this point, there’s been enough story hints about where things are going that I think we know the focus, or at least part of the focus, on what’s already been announced.

Echoes, Vex Episode – This may be the most vague, but as of this week, I think we have some strong hints that it will have to do with the Vex research team at the Ishtar Collective. We just saw the Ishtar symbol inside the Black Garden, where we know copies of the original team were exploring. And there are hints that other copies there have previously made contact with the missing Vault of Glass fireteam Warlock, Praedyth. Also, after explaining Maya Sundaresh’s veil research, my theory is that she lives on after death and may appear as an antagonist with the Vex, since we never really got a “face” from that race that we can hate . . Asher Mir may also appear.

Revenant, Scorn Episode – Again, we’ve gotten hints of this in previous seasons, and now a lot, especially this season. We know that there is a faction of Scorn loyalists working for Fikrul, specifically outside of The Witness plans, even though he is known to use Scorn in his own armies. The Warlord’s Ruin dungeon discusses Fikrul at length, and the conclusion is that the Scorn there are descended from the House of Kings, who are closely related to Uldren in Crow’s past life. We’ve killed Fikrul many times, but he’s essentially immortal, and it seems pretty obvious that he’s going to be the focus of this episode here as the only real Scorn figure that keeps lurking and skulking in the background.

Heresy, Hive Episode – Here, again, it seems pretty clear which Hive we’re ready to focus on. We learn that Savathun has been resurrected and now she’s off to do…something as we hold her ghost hostage. And the events of the Age of Witchcraft caused Eris to use the power of the Hive God to cut off Xivu Arath from her Throne world, making her mortal and able to be hunted down and killed. Theoretically. The only caveat here is that it’s hard to imagine Savathun not being involved in The Final Shape in some major way, and I could see something like The Martyr taking Xivu Arath through the Travelers Gate to act as a last line of defense, perhaps as the campaign boss. But we just don’t know, and my money is on both sisters playing strong in this episode.
