In “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” you can now play as Princess Zelda.

Nintendo

The revelation of a new Zelda it’s called a game Echoes of Sophia it has collided with me. The fact that you play as Zelda it’s great, but the lack of traditional combat feels off.

First, I’m glad we’re getting a new one Zelda game in the same vein as the The remake of Link’s Awakening. Rough did an amazing job developing this and having more Zelda Games in this functionally classic style are something I’m very excited about.

Second, the fact that you can finally play as Zelda is a wonderful change to the series. I’ve lost count of how many times friends have been wrong Link for Zelda, so at least this time they’ll be right on this one.

However, playing as Zelda is one thing, but the removal of the battle layout that was the mainstay of the series bothers me a bit. Not that I don’t trust Grezzo and Nintendo to come up with some fun puzzles with the new setup, it just feels a bit awkward and I wanted to play as Zelda with a sword and shield.

Maybe Zelda will get one later in the game, who knows at this point, but after Samus Aran steamrolling Space Pirates for decades, I was hoping Zelda could slice and dice some monsters this time around.

If you missed the trailer (shown below), its premise Echoes of Sophia is that Zelda has a new item called the Tri Rod which can copy and mimic objects in the game world, known as “echo“. You then use these echoes to advance and fight enemies, which also includes echoes from defeated monsters (shown above). It’s an interesting setup and I’m really curious how it will play out.

The link might even pop up at some point for all we know, but for now it looks like Echoes of Sophia is more of an action puzzle game than Zelda basic straight up action series.

In case you didn’t know, the Zelda part Triforce it’s Wisdom’s (with Link’s Courage), which is probably why it’s mentioned in the game’s title. I also think it’s pretty neat.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases for Switch on September 26th.
