Founders Andrew Carr (L) and Jeffrey Jarvis (R)
Cartwheel, a new 3D animation company founded by scientist Openai Andrew Carr and former Google Creative Manager Jonathan Jarvis, has come out of a secrecy with a cartoon platform based on the browser, designed to dramatically accelerate the creation of mobile games for games, movies, films. The company also announced a $ 10 million funding round, led by Craft Ventures, bringing the total increase to $ 15.6 million.
Cartwheel’s tools allow users to create 3D -character cartoons from text, video or library prompts. The platform supports professional work flows, including Maya and Unreal exports, but also includes a simplified environment designed to allow fewer technical users to create moving tents and characters directly in the browser. Cartwheel’s technology reduces the time required for common cartoons from hours or days to minutes, allowing creators to experiment, repeat and develop cartoons on a scale of production.
“There is this basic frustration animators facing today’s software,” Carr told me. “You need huge groups and weeks of effort to do things that should be fast. We wanted to solve it.” Carr previously worked at Openai with code creation tools and saw the capabilities for language models unlock cartoon work flows. Jarvis, a designer who helped start Google Creative Lab and later drove the Universal Pattern studio. He and Carr started the company together in 2023.

The platform supports the production of text in motion, motion reconstruction and character dependence on the browser. Users can search from a edited cartoon or type of animated or prompts, such as “Cast a Wizard Spell” or “Do a Silly Dance”, and receive cinematic sequences that can be applied to custom or created characters. The cartoons are fully edited and exported and the system is designed to be integrated into environmental environmental specifications such as unity and unrealistic.
Cartwheel’s team includes veterans from Pixar, Riot Games, Sony and Unity. Catherine Hicks animated manager whose credits include Cocoa; Toy Story 3; OutwardlyHe has joined the head of animation innovation. Neil Helm, known for the top -of -the -art image of the crowd In the 2nd; Turn; UpHe has been named Head of Interactive Animation. They help improve the tools and dependence systems from the perspective of the animator.
The company’s early access program attracted more than 8,000 beta users, including creatives from Dreamworks, Roblox, Duolingo and Take-Two. Many of these users, according to Carr, explored the way Cartwheel could accelerate the background and moving plans of the crowd, rapid prototypes or preview tasks traditionally confused by time and cost. “Animation software has not really changed in 20 years,” Carr said. “There is no reason that the same work or exclusion work must last three hours at a time.”
Cartwheel also includes a character generator trained on a 3D asset license. Users can upload sketches or models and receive specialized characters in return. The founders were unfaithful about the importance of training in paid data, moral origin, especially as legal inspection places AI training practices.
Three -dimensional dependence becomes automatically, so animators can begin to work in a character as soon as they are … more
Cartwheel enters a developing field that includes anything world and dynamic of the Wonder. Anything that focuses on automatic and move 3D assets for gaming engines such as unity and unreal, offering a large asset library and developer friendly tools. Wonder Dynamics, now part of Autodesk, allows filmmakers to introduce CG characters into action videos without traditional motion conception. Everyone focuses on professional animators who work mainly on video games and background characters in commercial animations.
Cartwheel supporters include Wndrco, Khosla Ventures, Accel, Tirta, Human Ventures and Runway, Ai Video Company. Investors see technology according to the media and entertainment, with marketing, education and e -commerce opportunities.
The next steps of the start include an API, designed for traffic later this year, which would allow developers to integrate cartwheel directly into games or other interactive environments. At present, anyone can register and start moving on the browser getcartwheel.com.
“The tools of the narrative must be in more hands,” Carr said. “That’s what we build.”
