Months in a time of new invoices, car suppliers are still adjusting their strategies.

“We do not react and replace suppliers left and right,” Sven Hoenecke, Executive Vice President of the Market Forvia HellaHe told Detroit this week’s management seminars.

Forvia Hella makes vehicle lighting and electronic systems.

Hoenecke said his company was involved in tariffs during Trump’s first administration. “In 2018 we learned that we had a fair exposure to China,” he said.

During the second administration of Trump, which began in January, the president has expanded invoices to many countries and products.

The executive said that Forvia Hella worked to develop “short, medium -term and long -term strategies”.

Car suppliers had to reach their own sellers to determine the point of origin for accessories and calculate the costs associated with invoices.

“We had to spend a lot of time with our own suppliers,” said Megan Hunter, Executive Vice President, Supply and Supply Businesses for the Chain for Martinrea International. The company designs, develops light structures and propulsion systems. Spoke at the same meeting as Hoenecke.

“Invoices have added stress,” Hunter said.

Invoices are not imposed on other countries. Instead, they are paid by the importers. Much of this cost is transferred to consumers.

Invoice levels in cars and trucks may be reduced, while consumers will absorb most of the cost, Alixpartners Counseling Company He said in June to an annual report.

Hoenecke said car suppliers may see new US sources of accessories. “We see the semiconductor industry taking locally,” he said.

However, rare earth metals are concentrated in China and other countries. “Minerals rarely are not abundant in the United States,” Hunter said.

Forvia Hella’s executive said he was still optimistic.

“You have to be flexible,” he said. “We have worked for invoices for some time now. I am very positive. I think many similar companies such as ours are pushing us” for more local sources.

Management Update Seminars are organized by Ann Arbor based on Center for car research. The center this year moved the seminars from August to mid -September. The seminars were held at a resort outside Traverse City, Michigan. The 2025 version was held in Detroit’s renovated Michigan Central Station.
