Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro White Edition

Huawei

Huawei announced the Watch Fit 5 Pro earlier this month, along with the thin and light MatePad Pro Max tablet. It’s an iterative upgrade over the Watch Fit 4 Pro, but it remains one of the most affordable fitness companions in Huawei’s portfolio.

Huawei’s new smartwatch has a bigger screen, a ceramic-like metal finish on the White model, and a brand new mini-workout feature that unlocks cute panda watch faces! It also borrows some health and fitness features from the flagship Watch 5, but the most fun part remains its mini-workouts.

If you wear a smartwatch every day, you’re probably familiar with the persistent notifications that remind you to stretch your legs or get up from your seat. Mini-workouts build on this feature, but expand to offer quick guided exercises. Huawei’s idea is to encourage movement when you can’t realistically do a full workout.

Mini workouts remind you to do short exercises like neck circles or side stretches. You get 30 short guided moves that don’t require equipment or much space. And you’re joined by an adorable panda on the watch face once you trigger a mini-workout. It shows every move so you have a cute guide to accompany you through these mini-workouts.

Unlike a boring “Stretch your legs” log on a wearable, this is a much more fun way to encourage users to add small activities throughout the day. Huawei also rewards you with new panda watch faces after you complete a set number of mini-workouts.

I don’t mind the stretch, but if it gives me more pandas, I’m in! It made me more conscious of adding these little bursts of exercise throughout my day. This feature of the Watch Fit 5 Pro has helped me add a much-needed stretching routine to my life, which is necessary given the long hours I work at my desk on a writing job.

Big screen, all-day battery life and more

The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro is a solid fitness tracker overall. It has a 1.92-inch LTPO AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of brightness and minimal bezels. The screen is under the protection of a sapphire lens for added durability. According to Huawei, its new wearable also features a “high-level watch oil filling” technique to make the bezel “shine brilliantly” from every angle.

The Watch Fit 5 Pro is easy on direct light and looks more premium than before. I had no readability issues in any lighting. Additionally, the LTPO board helps it refresh every second (1Hz), which helps improve battery life.

Huawei offers the new watch in both a strap and a band. I like the White Edition better, which has a “Micro-Arc Oxid” surface treatment. It’s supposed to make the metal feel more ceramic and harder. Then there’s an Orange Edition with an updated fabric strap. It has a double-layer organic silicone coating, resistant to water and oil. You can change them with a click of a button.

Watch Fit 5 Pro is equipped with a crown and a button. It features Huawei’s Sunflower positioning system, which can accurately track your location outdoors and is claimed to have better GPS performance even when you’re in a tunnel. It also adds a long-requested feature: NFC payments. You can use Curve in the UK to pay through your Watch Fit 5 Pro wirelessly.

Huawei’s new wearable offers exceptional durability. It promises 10 days of battery life on a single charge, and my unit has consistently lasted more than a week with ease.

Watch Fit 5 Pro works with both iPhone and Android (pairing via the Huawei Health app). It brings nap tracking, which works pretty well in real life. Its app also alerts you if you forget to put the watch on, which is useful if you’re on a trip and forget like me. However, you don’t have access to Google Assistant or Siri.

The Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro starts at £249 and is now available to buy in the UK, Australia, some parts of Europe and China.
