Today’s Wordle #1713 Hints and Answers for Thursday February 26th

I forgot to include the Wordle Wednesday puzzle in yesterday’s Wordle Wednesday guide, so you’re getting it a day late with my sincerest apologies. I think I’ve been too busy or just particularly wiped out from all the exercise I’ve been doing lately. I’m approaching 45, and I’m pretty determined to be in much better shape at 45 than I was at 35. But it’s so tiring! I am tired all the time, even as I can tell I am getting much stronger and fitter. I guess it’s partly getting old and partly just adjusting to the amount of hard physical work I’ve been doing. What’s good for your body is good for your brain, but sometimes my brain just doesn’t want to work at all!

How to play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five letter word in six tries or less. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

• Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct place.
• Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong place.
• Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to limit your guesswork. Every day brings a new word and everyone around the world tries to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot, or even me, your humble storyteller. See the rules for Competitive Wordle towards the end of this post.

How to play Competitive Wordle

• Guessing at 1 is worth 3 points. Guessing in 2 is worth 2 points. Guessing in 3 is worth 1 point. Guessing on 4 is worth 0 points. Guessing in 5 is -1 points. Guessing 6 is -2 marks and missing the Wordle is -3 marks.
• If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score every day.
• Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points — positive or negative.
• You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle etymology

Lance comes from Old French lance “spear, lance”, from Latin lancea “light spear (of Iberian origin).” The verb to “pierce or open” arose later from the use of the gun.
