Today’s NYT Strands Hints and Answers

January is quickly coming to an end, and I’m back as your humble Strands guide, here to help you uncover all the words. The best words. Today’s Strands is a reminder of the power of beauty and art. Let’s have a crack, shall we?

Looking for Friday’s Strands? See our guide here.

How to play Strands

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram spanning two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.

Spoiler ahead.

Today’s tips for strands

Read on for today’s topic and some tips to help you discover today’s words.

Today’s topic: A work of art

Hint: Each artwork is divided into two words.

What are the answers of today’s Strands?

Today’s spangram is: FAMOUS PAINTING

Here is the full list of words:

  • STARRY
  • NIGHT
  • WATER
  • LILY
  • BOATING
  • PARTY

Here is the completed Strands grid:

Today’s analysis of the legs

I came across spangram — FAMOUS PAINT — right away today, and that got me looking for famous paintings, obviously. I found STARRY NIGHT soon after, although as soon as I connected it as one word, it came back as incorrect. I tried it a couple more times, just to make sure I didn’t misspell it, and finally it occurred to me to try each word individually. That did the trick, and it was very simple to find BOATING PARTY and water lilies afterwards.

How did you do in your Strands today? Please let me know Twitter and Facebook.
