Rarely is a card that terrible on paper and just as bad in reality when the matches take place. UFC Vegas 95 at The Apex was one of those rare shows for the world leader in MMA.
In 10 fights, there were only three finishes and no knockouts. Somewhere Dana White is disgusted. There were more knockouts in the crowd in Vergil Ortiz’s victory over Serhii Bohachuk than at UFC Vegas 95.
In the main event, Serghei Spivac defeated Marcin Tybura via the second round. The finish came via the nasty armbar. Here is a look at the finish.
Spivac bounced back from a stoppage loss to Cyril Gane in his last fight to sneak Tybura into submission. The win puts Spivac in position to challenge a higher ranked opponent in his next match.
Jailton Almeida, currently ranked No. 7, challenged Spivac to face him in his next outing.
This fight probably won’t excite a ton of people, but it makes sense for a heavyweight division that lacks top attractions.
The other finishes of the night came from Japan’s Toshiomi Kazama who submitted Charalambos Grigoriou via triangle choke and Youssef Zalal defeated Jarno Errens by naked choke.
Here’s a look at the other endings:
Kazama’s win was the highlight of the night. He had done some damage in the first round but rebounded to win via triangle choke.
The 27-year-old bantamweight from Japan was in desperate need of a win, having lost his last two fights, all by stoppage, since earning a contract following his Road to UFC run. Youssef Zalal is one of the brightest young stars of the night.
Since returning to the UFC, Jalal has been on a back-to-back winning streak and is aching for fights against higher-ranked athletes. He easily handled Errens, backpacking him and picking up the submission victory.
Each fighter who scored a finish earned a performance bonus.
While Brazilian heavyweight Jhonata Diniz was unable to finish, he was impressive with his striking and cardio in winning a unanimous decision over Karl Williams in the qualifiers.
He’s a name to watch out for moving forward, as the heavyweight division in the UFC isn’t exactly beyond the Top 4 guys.
Here’s a look at all the results:

Fortunately, things are looking up for the UFC next weekend. UFC 305 features the highly anticipated clash between middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and former champion Israel Adesanya.
It will be one of the biggest games of the year. Be on the lookout for match week coverage.
