Zuffa llcJoe Pyfer’s match with Kelvin Gastelum is officially outside the UFC Mexico card.
Middleweight Matchup was paved for the main card at Arena CDMX in Mexico, but was canceled due to illness that affected Pyfer. Confirmed the information on his own Instagram story.
Confirmed UFC employees The news and no fighter in Stabndby, there was no room to replace Pyfer.
Pyfer had entered the race with some momentum, winning a KO win over Marc-André Barriault in June 2024. He hoped to start a victory, but the disease kept him out of action.
The two men could be adjusted to reschedule their match for an upcoming card. If there is a point available on a card in the next 60 days, I would expect to see Pyfer-Gastelum added to this fact.
It is the kind of fight that has some juice for almost any card-even card and a pay-per-view.
Kelvin Gastelum may be the greatest loser in this situation
Mexico City, Mexico – March 28: Kelvin Gastelum puts on the scale during the night of UFC Fight Night … more
Zuffa llcGastelum has recently been committed to staying in Middleweight, which was a big lift from his back and has struggled to make a Welterweight in his career. Like Pyfer, he won his last race, a unanimous victory over Daniel Rodriguez in June 2024.
Postponement of the race could potentially be an important disorder for Gastelum as he is trying to start what elements is his final opportunity to take a route in a UFC championship.
What does this mean for UFC Mexico
Mexico City, Mexico – March 28: Mexico’s Brandon Moreno puts on the scale during the UFC race … more
Zuffa llcBecause Pyfer-Gastelum was set as a main card race, the UFC was forced to make an adjustment. In response, the promotion has increased the fight between José Daniel Medina and Ateba Gautier in the designated prelimination. Edgar Chairez vs. CJ Vergara was raised on the main card.
The event still has a powerful headliner: a Flyweight battle between Brandon Moreno and Steve Erceg. There are huge entries involved in the main event, as the loser could find himself away from the challenge for a 125 -pound title.
The co-king event between Manuel Torres and Drew Dober has some night battle dynamics. Gautier and David Martinez are also two hot prospects that make their main debut, so their races are also interesting. With these struggles still on the card, and with a spiritual Mexican crowd, there should be more action for fans who want to coordinate.
Still, the absence of the Gastelum-Pyfer match will be felt.
