Hi, everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start.

Today’s NYT Strands hints, spangrams and answers come instantly.

How to play Strands

The New York Times Strands Puzzle is a classic word search game. It is now available at NYT Game application along with the like Wordle and Connections (which we also cover in daily Forbes gaming guides).

There is a new game of his Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight letter grid. The goal is to find a group of words that have something in common and you’ll get an idea of what that topic is. When you find a topic word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You will also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram connects at least two sides of the board, but may not start or end there. While thematic words would not be a proper name, spangram might be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Each letter is used once in one of the theme words and the spangram. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and it is possible to switch directions in the middle of a word. If you’re playing on a touchscreen, double-tap the last letter to submit your guess.

If you find three valid words with at least four letters that are not part of the theme, you will unlock the Hint button. Clicking on this will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.

Be warned: You should be alert. Sometimes you will need to fill in the missing words in a sentence. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will vary from day to day and the puzzle creators will try to surprise you sometimes.

New York Times

I struggled a bit with this one. I got the PASSWORD pretty quickly and was left reeling. A hint gave me the letters for SAFE and from there I was able to get BACKUP, LOCK and the spangram. I needed another hint to help me figure out the last two words, and once I had a firewall, it was pretty easy to see ENCRYPTION.

I used two hints and spangram was the fifth theme word I found.
