ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Today: Hints, Spangrams and Answers for Saturday, December 21stWith Eric Cain

It’s another lazy Sunday. A pretty good day of the week to play word games and solve puzzles if you ask me, though really. . . is there a bad day? This is also the last Sunday before Christmas, which is running towards us as fast as Santa’s reindeer. Actually, Santa’s reindeer would make a really good Strands puzzle. Speaking of which, let’s solve today’s!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram that crosses from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.

Spoiler ahead.

Today’s tips for strands

Today’s topic: are you listening

Hint #1: In the meadow we can make a snowman.

Tip #2: Then pretend to be Parson Brown.

To help you discover all the words, here are the first two letters of every word, including the spangram.

Remember, spoilers ahead!

What are the answers of today’s Strands?

Today’s spangram is: WINTER WONDERLAND

Here is the full list of words:

  • SLEIGH
  • BELLS
  • WALK
  • SNOW
  • BRILLIANT

Here is the completed Strands grid:

Today’s analysis of the legs

I love these Strand items. There was one a few weeks ago with recognizable lyrics from the Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody. This was definitely a more challenging puzzle. This, the moment I found BELLS and SNOW, I was pretty much buzzed Walking in a winter wonderland to myself. The hardest word was GLISTENING, because there were two ways you could arrange the N’s at the end of that word. A fun, if not terribly difficult, Strands today.

How did you do in your Strands today? Please let me know Twitter and Facebook.
