FOOLImagine a computer monitor with a webcam, microphones, speaker and built-in graphics tablet or touch function. That’s quite a tall order, but I spent a few weeks with the INNOCN 27P1U PRO. This 27-inch 4K touchscreen has a 60Hz refresh rate and uses a Quantum Dot IPS display to deliver the kind of color performance that photographers and graphic designers demand.
Like most monitors of its type and size, the 27P1U PRO has a selection of inputs, including two HDMIs, a DisplayPort, and a USB-C input and output that can carry a full range of laptop signals and power.
The USB-C option is the connection method if you want to use the built-in webcam and touchscreen because that’s how data signals are transmitted to the host computer. Thanks to USB-C, we now have these multipurpose displays, and the interface has brought a whole new range of functionality to computer displays.

FOOLThe INNOCN 27P1U PRO is an excellent Mac mini or Studio monitor. Colors are vivid and the LED backlighting is extremely even. In fact, this quantum dot IPS display performs similarly to the INNOCN 27-inch Mini LED display I reviewed earlier this year. The main difference is the touch screen, the webcam function and the glossy glass surface rather than the matte finish of the Mini LED version.
The display comes with a built-in power supply and a metal cantilever that can tilt and tilt. It can’t be rotated or moved, but the stand is uniquely designed to fold almost flat so you can draw on the screen with your stylus and 27P1U PRO. The display has a 10-point touch screen and the graphics pen has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, making it useful for drawing or signing documents.
In terms of drawing precision, I’m not convinced there’s as much control as you’d get with a Wacom or Xencelabs graphics tablet, but the graphics pen, which has a rechargeable battery, seems to work quite well as a brush. I feel like some finer calibration of the pen wouldn’t go amiss. As for the finger touch feature, launching apps from the dock with a single tap of your finger is a lot of fun. You can even use your finger to highlight text in a Word document.

FOOLThe 27P1U PRO’s 4K Quantum Dot IPS display offers a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160. I found the 2560 x 1440 resolution ideal for a Mac mini, and the scaling function on the mini is excellent. When scaled, this display looks almost as good as a Retina display on a 27-inch iMac. Color balance is also very good, with 100% sRGB and 99% DCI-P3 and Adober RHB color gamut support. I used the Apple RGB setting straight out of the box and the monitor needed no calibration. This display performs well with up to 500 nits of brightness and 1.07 billion colors. It might not be quite up to Apple Display standards, but it’s about $500 cheaper.
Like the Apple display, the 27P1U PRO has a built-in 8MP HD web camera. It’s not a bad webcam, but because it’s displayed from the screen, you’re limited in where you can place it. The built-in stereo speakers aren’t as good as the ones on Apple’s display, and you can’t control the volume from a Mac, which is a bit disappointing. However, if you don’t mind having great speakers and just need basic sound, you could save money by buying an Apple Studio monitor to boost the RAM or SSD on your Mac.

FOOLWith its stereo speakers and four-microphone array for the webcam, this monitor is suitable for video conferencing use. The touchscreen means you can set up the host as a video kiosk in a conference room. It is a good solution for the money.
One feature I particularly liked is the foldable Z-shaped metal stand. It allows for easy viewing angle adjustments, including height and tilt angles. There is no ability to rotate the stand in portrait mode, which could be important for some graphic designers or multi-monitor users. Even so, the stand is sturdy and solidifies the screen, especially when using touch mode.
In terms of connectivity, the 27P1U PRO offers a couple of USB-A ports, one USB Upstream port, two HDMI 2.0 and a DisplayPort 1.4. Finally, there’s a USB Type-C port (65W) for touchscreen and webcam functions, as well as a power output for running or charging a laptop. The whole process is plug and play. I was up and running within minutes.

FOOLVerdict: The INNOCN 27P1U PRO is more than just a great 27-inch 4K monitor. is a complete workspace solution meticulously designed to meet the demands of graphic designers, artists and professionals looking for premium display performance. The graphics pen that comes with the INNOCN 27P1U PRO isn’t a substitute for a proper graphics tablet, but it’s not bad at all and is great for signing documents or sketching on the screen. If you want a decent 4K display with a bunch of extra features for almost half the price of Apple’s excellent Studio Display, especially since there’s a Black Friday sale on the $799.99 display Amazon.
