Sendy Audio presents the new Egret Planar Magnetic Headphones with ultra-thin membrane

Send audio revealed her latest audio creation today. The all-new Egret headphones have been designed from the ground up to deliver precision, refinement and comfort. These new headphones feature a newly developed nanoscale diaphragm produced using an advanced manufacturing process. The drivers are then housed in Sendy’s signature handcrafted wooden earcups.

At the heart of the Egret headphones are specially designed planar magnetic drivers with impressive dimensions of 98 x 84 mm. Sendy says these drivers are his most ambitious design to date. The composite nanoscale diaphragm is less than 800 nanometers thick, resulting in a sound with lightning-fast response, pinpoint accuracy and realistic dynamics.

Using Sendy’s electron beam evaporation deposition, an ultra-thin aluminum circuit is deposited directly onto the driver diaphragm surface at the atomic level. This high-precision manufacturing process delivers improved resolution, reduced distortion levels and an open soundstage, making the Egret suitable for detailed listening, studio use or simply enjoying music at home.

The wood egret enclosures are handcrafted from solid wood, with each pair featuring a unique grain and tone, so no two pairs are alike. The headphones’ open-back design produces an extremely spacious and transparent soundstage, while the ergonomic headband contour and soft leather ear cushions are specially designed for hours of fatigue-free listening.

The sound signature of the Egret is pure Sendy thanks to an impressive frequency range that spans from low 8Hz to Hi-Res 40kHz. This wide dynamic range translates into a balanced and organic sound with tight bass, transparent mids and controlled treble. The overall presentation is impeccably neutral, but the headphones could also benefit from careful pairing with a high-quality DAC capable of realizing the kind of sound and dynamic range these headphones can deliver.

Shipping with the Egret is a detachable cable developed using a unique three-composite structure to ensure signal clarity. The cable design consists of 30 strands of oxygen-free Furukawa copper, 10 strands of silver-plated copper, plus 10 strands of enamelled gold-plated copper. Sendy has added spring strain reliefs where the cable enters the termination to ensure long term durability. The Egrets are supplied with a luxurious zipped and tanned leather carrying case.

Sendy claims that the combination of wires used in the Egret’s cable offers improved conductivity and higher definition. The graphene-reinforced PVC jacket that protects the cables enhances the overall flexibility and durability of the cable. Finally, the termination is a Pentaconn 4.4mm balanced jack plug, but Sendy also provides 3.5mm and 6.35mm single-ended adapters for broad compatibility with a wide range of devices, DACs and amplifiers.

The Egret may not appeal to everyone due to its highly analytical nature, but a pair of headphones that can mercilessly expose the shortcomings of a sound system or a mainstream movie is exactly what many audiophiles are looking for. There’s no hiding place for a poor quality mix, inferior amp, or inadequate DAC with these headphones. If you have a top-of-the-line system or source, then you can expect to hear more… a lot more.
