Adam Boyes, Vice President of Third Party Relations on PlayStation from 2012-2016 was the co-star of the infamous “So you share games on the PlayStation“A video aimed at new Microsoft Xbox One rights policies that they had finally been put into abolition.

Now, ten years later, Boyes talked to Gamertag Radio For a long interview and is not a fighter for his former opponent, indicating what the Xbox is doing seems reasonable and that “there are no casualties” in the new multi -form distribution plan for former exclusively.

“I understand why people have feelings about this and opinions, because their idea is the identity of choosing a trademark and existence in this brand is unilateral and therefore it must be the source of all content,” he said. Boyes.

He believes that the current ecosystem of the console/toys has changed fundamentally and uses an interesting transfer to describe it:

“So if we think about this, the ratio that maybe PlayStation is HBO, Microsoft is Netflix and Nintendo is Disney, then their job is to get incredibly interactive and attractive entertainment to as many people as possible.”

Transfer does not enough Work like all three of these are flow services and Netflix does not give its contents to other places, but I get what it says. HBO is known for producing high quality original series that Air at its service. Netflix pioneered the subscription streaming model in the way Microsoft is trying to do with the Pass game. Nintendo is Disney is an obvious comparison with her massive family.

The only thing she admits is that while Microsoft’s software strategy makes sense in many ways, there will probably be an obvious challenge to continue to make the case of her material, where we have seen sales falling all time new numbers are revealed.

As is the case, here are things in terms of “strategy” for each brand:

  • PlayStation: PS CONSOLE Exclusive games of individual player starting in PC 2+ years later, games for many players starting the same day on the computer (few on Xbox to come, such as the marathon)
  • Xbox: Each game on the table for cross-platform release on PlayStation and/or Switch 2 depending on the title, this may be the same day, time delay or some indefinite point in the future if ever. The appeal for Mrs Loyalists is the “same day on the Xbox Game Pass”.
  • Nintendo: Doing what Nintendo has always done with first -party favorite games. It will get more third -party games and some Xbox games with the start of Switch 2.

As you can see, the “war of the console” is not what it was. The Xbox has lost, but is trying to be a leader in the subscription area. Nintendo just sold more consoles than they ever have. Sony still puts many critical successes, but it is difficult to balance a player’s big budgets and successful versions for many players. We’ll see where things go from here.
