The Samsung android XR Headset
SamsungThe first Samsung Android XR Headset and the first Android XR headset of all of them has been analyzed in a YouTube video.
The world -renowned YouTuber Marques Brownlee was the first to give his headset his original audience in a recent YouTube video. And if there is a serious new competition for the Meta Quest 3 among the mainstream buyers in 2025, it is.
At this stage it can be more interesting to evaluate what the possible demo treatment shows about the goals and direction of the platform. But Brownlee has some useful observations on the Samsung VR handset itself, even if it was unable to reveal many stable technical specifications.
Samsung claims that the handset will be released this year, although there are no price agreements so far.
Samsung XR vs Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro
Brownlee says that the quality of the image of the headset and her field of view is “nice” but “not remarkable”. And he says that the image clarity is at least one step down to that of the Apple Vision Pro.
This suggests that, logically, Samsung and Google are not targeting the type of non-adoptive buyer-backed buyer. Apple’s $ 3500 headset has been badly sold, leading to sales targets to fall half an initial level, while November reports have shown that Apple can quietly stop the device.
However, the hands-on demo still shows clear similarities to the Apple Vision Pro.
First, there is what it looks like. The Samsung Android XR headset does not have the weird fake Vision Pro face screen, but has a glossy Visor section and a more luxurious Meta Quest 3 look.
It also has certain higher level features, including distance adjustments between intermediate adjustments and eye monitoring.
Features Android XR
Brownlee’s demo is also completely controlled using his hands and eyes. The Samsung Headset has an internal perspective for eye monitoring and the well -known camera range that can map the location of your fingers.
It will be able to install Android applications from Google Play and there are “spatial” versions of the Android XR applications, including YouTube and Google maps.
So far there is no need for a huge benefit to the Meta Quest platform, which allows users to deliver applications. But the Android XR platform will have, perhaps unexpectedly, significant integration with Google’s Gemini AI system.
It can be used to analyze and identify objects in the user’s view and, perhaps more interesting, browse the interface of the Samsung headset. Brownlee asks to rearrange the windows on the screen, for example, in a clear demonstration of AI Chatbot’s natural language processing.
It remains to see if Android XR will do enough or will be good enough to dominate manufacturers currently based on their own AOSP (Android Open Source Project) forks for their VR headphones. Pico and meta headphones are already using the Android skeleton as their software frame.
If Pico was going to go to Android XR for its future headphones, it will obviously come at significant software licensing costs to be transferred to the end user. $ 40 per device is the shape that has been floating for years as the cost to get Google Mobile Services, and the Core Google App Suite on a phone.
