Riot Games has released the patch notes for Legion of Legends 14.8, which are mainly focused on balancing the game for pro players ahead of the Mid Season Invitational tournament. However, there are also many balance changes that will affect everyone, and there are the final preparations before the new Vanguard anti-cheat software is released.
In terms of balance changes, the biggest change isn’t to one champion, but to Baron, who takes all of his damage. While the big visual overhaul and the addition of two new Barons at the start of the year was a nice addition, it still hasn’t felt as dangerous as it should have. However, now almost all of his damage output has been tweaked slightly to make him more dangerous to anyone who steps into the pit.
The Voidgrubs, who inherit the pit before the Baron appears, are also modified. Their spawn time is changing so you can no longer just trade them and Dragon when they both spawn, and their kill bonus has also been nerfed.
Then when we get to the champion changes, there are quite a few that target champions that could be pretty strong at MSI. Azir gets a health nerf and reduced W damage early on, while Zeri gets a basic health nerf as the developers believe she could be the “most wanted champion at MSI.”
On the other side of the scale, Graves, Jhin and Olaf all have buffs which is great news for me as they are some of my most played champions. There aren’t many huge fans, but Mordekaiser gets a big change in that his ultimate can no longer escape with certain items or abilities, making it much more powerful. You’ll want to check it out the full patch notes for all the details, but on paper, it looks like a big change.
Skarner also takes up a large portion of the patch notes, but some of those changes come from the hotfix the other week. However, some quality-of-life changes in proposed builds will be appreciated by anyone trying to play the redesigned champion for the first time.
Next we get to the not-so-fun part of the patch notes, the Vanguard launch. Vanguard is the new anti-cheat solution for League of Legends that is already a part brave. Despite Riot revealing that one in 15 Hahaha The matches had a cheater, fans are still skeptical about the upcoming release of Vanguard given access to your PC. Unfortunately for those folks, this patch sees Vanguard rolling out to the Philippines and beginning compatibility checks for the rest of the world. If you don’t pass these checks, you’ll need to fix the problem before patch 14.9, when Vanguard will be released to the rest of the world.
