Southwest Airlines and Omni Hotels have teamed up to offer a unique experience to two travelers who want to watch the total solar eclipse on April 8 for a plane ride.

THE “Solarbration sweepstakesIt will see two winners and their guests get the chance to experience it all from 35,000 feet on one of two scheduled Southwest Airlines flights:

  • Southwest flight #1252, departing Dallas (Love Field) at 12:40 p.m. CDT for Pittsburgh.
  • Southwest flight #1721, departing Austin at 12:55 p.m. CDT for Indianapolis.

Both are sold out and have been for months. In February, Delta put two similar flights on sale, from Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth to Detroit at the time of the eclipse. Both sold out in less than 24 hours.

Omni Hotels will offer “Solar Eclipse Suites” for the winners.

Over the moon

“The whole world will be looking up on April 8 and we’re over the moon to take advantage of our position in the sky by extending the opportunity to observe this phenomenon over several flights Southwest of the eclipse path,” Julia Mele said. Director of Brand and Content for Southwest Airlines. The eclipse will be visible only from North America, mostly as partial, but also as total within its 115-mile path of totality that will span across Mexico, parts of 15 US states and Canada.
