Destiny 2 is gearing up for the release of the final expansion to the Light and Darkness saga, The Final Shape, although the game will continue in some form after that. Now, we have our final launch trailer for The Final Shape, joining a number of other pretty good trailers for the expansion so far. This? It’s totally shocking.
What new things are we seeing? What do we learn? Well, we can extract a bit and you can check out the trailer for yourself below:
- It was… a lot. First, it’s a purely CG trailer, indicating that there will be one lot fully rendered cutscenes in The Final Shape, not just in-engine stuff, animation sequences, or cult pages. These are expensive, and there seem to be a lot of them.
- The Martyr doesn’t just relax within the Traveler, but actively churns the earth and transforms everything into the fragmented Ultimate Form of “silence”. I mean, I guess his defeat would take the Earth and all its apples and children, but yeah, things aren’t going well.
- We see the arrival of the famous shrouded figures from the early days of the game, a concept that seemed like it might have been forgotten, but has a ghostly role this time around.
- This role? This appears to be the corruption of Commander Zavala, previously considered the most incorruptible member of the Vanguard. We know that he has suffered a great loss in the form of his son, Hakeem, who was killed by the Fallen. His mother, Safiyah, survived, but they separated and she soon perished due to his immortality and her lack of it. Now, maybe he wants them back? Either way, the idea of a dark-corrupted Zavala is terrifying.
- We saw Crow struggle in the finale of Wish, going up against Cayde, missing every shot. But now? He totally channels Cayde with a Golden Gun, indicating that he’ll be much more involved with The Final Shape that just brought us there.
- However, the focus is definitely Vanguard. We don’t see much news from Cayde, but we do have Zavala, and Ikora gets shot at one point (I’m sure she’s fine).
It’s… a pretty crazy trailer, even by Destiny standards where their trailer teams are always on point. This is a very, very rare all-CG trailer and a long one, and again it really shows that there will be a lot of this level of quality in the release itself. I can not wait.
