After her “Blood Moon” last night she sees all over America, everyone raises the same question – when is the next total lunar eclipse? Here is everything you need to know when a “blood moon” will be visible next time.

Basic events

The next total lunar eclipse will take place on September 7-8, 2025.

The overall lunar eclipses are global events that are happening at the same time, but only the night side of the Earth can watch them. During all the stages of the eclipse on September 7-8, 2025, America will be on Earth Day. No part of the eclipse will see from North or South America.

Entire eclipse including the penumbral and some phases (as the full moon moves through the vague outer shadow of the earth, the penumbraand in the dark of shadow), will take five hours and 27 minutes.

About 4.9 billion people will see the entire eclipse in September from start to finish, according to Timeanddate.comWith 7.1 billion – about 87% of the world population – seeing some of the initial stages of the eclipse.

A total lunar eclipse always occurs two weeks before or after a solar eclipse. This is due to the fact that the moon’s orbital trail intersects the sun path through the Earth’s Heaven (the ecliptic) twice each month. If it crosses the ecliptic as a full moon, it causes a lunar eclipse. Two weeks later, it will cross ecliptic as a new moon, causing a solar eclipse or vice versa.

Just as yesterday’s total lunar eclipse will be followed by a partial solar eclipse on March 29, the total lunar eclipse on September 7-8 will be followed by partial solar eclipse on September 21.

Partial solar eclipse on Saturday 29 March 2025

A partial solar eclipse throughout the northern hemisphere will occur between 08:50 and 12:43 UTC (4: 50-8: 43 am Edt) on Saturday, March 29, 2025. The moon will block up to 93% of the sun, but what the observers see depends on the location. Solar eclipse glasses will be required at any time.

When is the next “Moon Blood” total lunar eclipse visible in North America?

For North America observers, the next fully visible overall lunar eclipse will not occur until March 3-4, 2026. During this event, the whole eclipse will be visible in Hawaii, Alaska and the western regions of the US and Canada, with all the other areas of the East. March.

Background

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is just between the sun and the moon, causing the full moon to travel the shadow of the Earth in space. During the whole, the unique sunlight reaching the lunar surface has been refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere, which filters shorter wavelengths of blue light to let the moon bathe in reddish wavelength light. This dramatic event is often referred to as “blood moon”.

Lunar eclipses follow a predictable circle thanks to the alignment of the Earth, the Sun and the Moon. This cycle, known as Saros cycle, is repeated every 18 years, 11 days and eight hours. Each Saros series produces a family of eclipses with similar features, allowing astronomers to predict future eclipses accurately.
