Google’s mission to tighten Android’s security continues and a new leak indicates that Chrome was distracted to help. When released, this will help to stop the scourge of malware that continues to plague Android users while keeping the gap on the iPhone.

As identified by Mspoweruser“Google is testing an APK Malware Check at Chrome Canary for Android, warning users for harmful shots.” This is essentially the job is usually left to play protects and “the feature is only for telemetry for some users, but will extend to everyone with a safe browsing”.

We’ve already seen Chrome and Play Protect begins to work closely to defend Android with reduced shooting warnings when the play Protect is running, but this is the first time we have seen the game protect the hand over some of the usual His responsibilities.

The new flag in Canary reads “Check APK shots on Android for malware. The malicious APK Downloads check”, and when activated, “Chrome will scan the APK files you download to your Android device to see if they contain any known Malicious software. ”

As Android principle He puts it, “Chrome for Android could soon have your back when downloading apps.” It is a good move, although it is not clear if this determines malware that will otherwise be lost simply making the balance of processing more effective, essentially stopping the installation at the source.

Per Android principle“This would be a welcome protection layer for Android phones, as the Play Protect usually scans these files before installing them. The play Protect also periodically scans your installed applications to make sure they are all safe. APK as they download would be very convenient. “

In my opinion, while this is positive, it is not the main show. The focus now should be the live threat protection on appliances that has been introduced with Android 15 and which promises to highlight suspicious behavior and even abuse of license, without being based on centrally sorted signals to warn that an installation can be dangerous.

Suffice it to say that if Chrome warns you that a download can be dangerous, do not take the risk. Overall, this is just the last initiative from Google as Android narrows this gap on the iPhone. It is clear that with the progress of the security of Android 15 and now Android 16 promises more than itself, the gap has never been smaller.
