Battery units that store electricity in the desert.

General Motors, which has poured billions of dollars to produce electric vehicles in US plants, works with Redwood materials to use some of its cells for steady power systems for the electricity grid as well as AI data centers.

The automaker based on Detroit, which already supplies battery waste in Redwood For recycling, plans to provide both new and used batteries made by the US, which Redwood will pack as large fixed packages, the companies said. The move comes after Redwood based in Reno, founded by co -founder Tesla and today’s member of the JB Straubel Board of Directors, set up a new unit for the provision of energy storage packages called Redwood Energy.

“The market for scale batteries and reserve power are not only expanding, it becomes a substantial infrastructure,” said Kurt Kelty, head of the GM battery. “Demand for electricity is climbing and will only accelerate.”

Finding additional uses for battery cells beyond EVs can help GM maximize its investment in R&D and the production of this technology, as Trump’s management policies, distilled in the simple successive act of a large Beautiful Bill, darken the prospects for the sales of EV but also for the sales of EV but also for the sales of EV. The pursuit of new applications for cleaner, less polluting energy technology is exactly what many investors encourage companies to do.

“Someone said that” Climate Tech has gone from green to hak “because it is not just green technology anymore. Tower. “From an investment point of view, this mitigates some uncertainties around the climate element in terms of escalating these technologies. Because they now have a second market that is accelerating and having more money in it.”

GM is one of the fastest growing electric vehicles in the US, making a 104% profit in the first half due to new models such as Chevrolet Equinox, the second only in Tesla. This rate of growth is not expected to continue later in the year.

“With the motives supported by the government that will end in September and financial pressure, the second half of the year will be a critical test of EV demand,” he said Cox Automotive Stephanie Valdez Streaty. “The Q3 will probably be a record, followed by a collapse in Q4, as the purchase of electric vehicles adapts to its new reality.”

Data centers

Data centers are a highly rapidly growing source of electricity consumption, which are likely to use 12% of US electricity production by 2028, according to The Section. In June, Redwood said that supplied a 63 Megawatt-Hour battery microgrid for use by CRUSOEAn AI infrastructure company operating at its headquarters in Nevada. This installation includes used GM batteries.

GM already makes lithium -ion batteries for its electric models and this week has announced plans to make lower costs also Lithium-Sydiros phosphate cells In Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant. The company has also announced recent plans to start producing lithium-human cells, a new cell chemistry that is expected to shave at least $ 6,000 from the cost of electric truck packages.

GM upgrades the spring hill, Tennessee, the plant to build lithium-scosom-foffelt battery cells.

GM and Redwood refused to provide financial details of the partnership, but will share more information later this year, they said in a statement.

Redwood, which Straubel coexists in 2019, recycles used lithium ion cells to recover valuable raw materials and also makes accessories for new batteries. The narrow company Company estimates that it processes more than 20 gigawatt-hours of use of batteries-Israeli cells with 250,000 EVS-in.

Straubel and Kelty collaborated on Tesla, creating EV’s battery functions from his early days to 2017, when Kelty departed. Straubel, a former Tesla CTO, left the company in 2019 to focus on Redwood.

GM shares rose about 1% to close to $ 53.18 in New York.
