David Gilmour lives in Circus Maximus, Rome, is an impeccable audiovisual experience in IMAX.

Around these places, we are known to make a lot of IMAX experience. While there are others, very nice, and to some extent technical superior systems, there is still nothing compared to sitting in front of the splendor of a huge IMAX screen and the power and beauty of the sound system.

This brought me once again earlier this week when I got to enjoy a concert movie show David Gilmour lives in Circus Maximus, Rome.

The concert movie, received by one of his shows on his 23-day fate and curious tour, was preceded by a short documentary, in which, very much for the fun of all, Gilmour introduced himself, for anyone who could not become familiar with him.

He also gently occupied the band’s closeness to the accumulation in the show, which Gilmour describes as the best he has ever toured. Of the group, I immediately recognized (also legendary) Greg PhillinganesBut I wasn’t familiar with Gilmour Ben Worsley’s tourist guitarist. As it turns out in the film, he is a very complete artist and it was a bit weird to find himself next to him after the movie, drying his hands on the men’s looses! Well, it’s a two -and -a -half hour movie!

Watch a concert or be part of a

It was interesting to see this concert movie soon after The sign of the prince for the times in the same IMAX amphitheater. The prince and David Gilmour have obviously very different performance styles associated with being two of the best guitarists of the popular music era. While the IMAX DMR process ensured that Prince’s film seemed cinematic (except for a few short soft long shots to the end where DMR seemed to be struggling), the SPANKING-New Footage signal from this 2024 show has a super-clean, extremely clear look that gave him a documentary.

Even sitting in the back series of the BFI IMAX (one first for me), the screen size made the amphitheater feel like an expansion of the scene at Circus Maximus in Rome: the audience members on the screen are apparently moving with people moving around Imax Auditorium.

What broke me, however, was the immersion of the sound, which never ages, it sounds better than I have ever heard.

While the rear row is not ideal for a surround effect movie, with a concert, the sound is naturally focused on the stage in front of you and the height of the IMAX 12 channel series giving a wonderful expansive feel to the sound. The applause of the audience sounded like the audience in the room and made it feel like I was in the best place at home in that gloomy night in Rome

While shame, I wasn’t familiar with David Gilmour’s latest album, Luck and strangeFrom which she attracts much of the concert, I still liked the tracks, especially those in which his daughter, Romany Gilmour, added her airy, Insouciant vocals. And classic pieces pink Floyd like I wish you were here and Comfortable numbnesswas nothing less than transcendent. The sound of Gilmour’s guitar plays, gorgeous.

Following the film, man himself appeared, speaking in an Q&A interview, in which he described watching himself on the giant BFI screen as “ridiculous”. Answering the question of whether he had any unfulfilled ambitions, he said, with the right rock star fashion, that he would like to play in the pyramids one day if the geopolitics had ever allowed and that he would like to sit down and watch himself play, implying an “Abba”.

For fans who would like to see Gilmour at a concert, he hints that he was thinking about it and working on a new album.

David Gilmour Live at Circus Maximus, Rome, will be released in 64 countries on September 17th2025, with local deadlines in Davidgilmour.film. While a natural DVD and Blu-ray released the same day is welcome, I would recommend catching it on the big screen, if you can, especially on a 12-channel IMAX screen.
