Two Major League baseball games went to dogs last week when Rockies hosted Bark in the park at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.

On September 2 and 3, Rockies hosted the San Francisco giants, as well as over 1,000 dog fans and their people every night, according to Reuben Donnelly, Assistant Sales Manager Rockies Group, who oversees the bark to the park’s events.

“Four legs were just over a thousand every night, and two legs were 1,500,” he said. “It’s a lot of dogs.”

This is the 15th year that Colorado Rockies hosted a bark in the park.

Despite the high quantity of dogs, there were no battles (at least among the dogs-there was a clearing quarrel on the field on September 2). Instead, dogs of all breeds and sizes were enthusiastically gathered before the game to provide around the stadium.

Some showed pride in Purple Tutus, Bandanas or baseball. A lovely few even had their fur painted purple.

After the show around the field, mainly without marking, Furry fanatics headed to a special “dog belt” section in Outfield, with water supply stations and relief areas (for dogs, not pitchers).

The perks of the bark in the park

Participants could visit a kiosk from the animal hospital chain Emergency group For free goodies such as a first aid kit and hand disinfectant. They all received gifts from sponsors such as King Soupers on their way, including dogs and a bark in Bandana Park.

The bark in the park also raises money to rescue animal Safe Harbour Lab Rescue.

When buying the bark on the park tickets, fans had to upload their dog vaccination files and essentially agree to bring only social dogs. Tickets exhausted within 2-3 days, Donnelly said. Thus, the team added two additional bark to the nights of the park – no parade due to logistics – for September 16 and 17.

The comments were already incredibly positive and Donnelly intends to bring his own English Bulldog, Margaret, in his first bark in the park’s game next week.

“I think people who come to the park are talking to Denver and Colorado’s passion for their dogs,” Donnelly said. “There are a lot of people out there who want to do some fun, creative things with their furry friend, and that’s one of them.”

With 81 home games during the baseball season, events such as the park bark offer a fun way to attract fans to the stadium, Donnelly noted.

“For our part, it’s a huge victory,” he said. “He designs the people in the park that may never have been in the park before and that is our ultimate goal: to try to share Coors Field Stadium and the sport of baseball with people who want to have a good time.

On September 3, Rockies Thomas Kranz fan shown the team on the kiosks next to his son Henry, 10, daughter Mary Kate, 8, and Goldie, Cavachon who will celebrate her first birthday in a few weeks.

“We finally got a dog and that was one of the first events I was looking for,” he said. “Dog people are generally kind people and I knew that would be a lot of fun. Let’s hope this will be an annual tradition for us.”
