Android has a serious problem and suddenly gets worse. Uniquely, Google controls both its hardware and software, as opposed to everyone else OEMs of Android, including Samsung, the largest of all. Only Samsung and now Huawei can compete.

The reality check for 2025 is that Google is the only Android phone manufacturer that can compete with its Apple and its iPhone when it comes to the overall offer. This is undoubtedly even more critical when it comes to security updates. Last month, Apple released ios 18.6.2 to deal with an actively exploited vulnerability. For Samsung and others OEM Android is a different story. They need to take the Google Update core and then incorporate that in their own security releases. It’s the same for Samsung’s corrections. CVE-2025-21043 is a vulnerability of galaxies that are now on attack. Corrected in Samsung’s September liberation. But unlike Apple and the similar CVE-2025-43300, Samsung’s update will not be released immediately.

The monthly updates will focus on emergency corrections, allowing the CAE to gather their immediate efforts on what is more important. The basket of other updates will be relegated to a quarterly omni update.
So the July update had no security corrections while it had in September more than 100. What has not changed is that pixel comes first and all the other OEMs are left behind. As I have suggested before, as Google narrows the gap in Samsung and the iPhone, which begins to raise serious questions for Samsung, as well as the other top (Chinese) OEM.
Zero days are now thick and fast, and Apple has just launched a new OS defense against Spyware, which only Pixel can match Android. With Pixel now competing more aggressively, something should give.
