Hello, Connectors! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m very happy to be back with you for another daily series of this column here.

As always, we’ll kick off Monday’s edition with a song that I (and hopefully you) find upbeat and fun. Let those endorphins and good vibes flow!

This time, let’s go with an all-time great pop song, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston. I never fail to put a smile on my face and at least tap my toes:

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday July 20th coming soon. Let’s roll!

How to play the links

Connections it’s free every day New York Times game that challenges you to arrange a grid of 16 words, phrases or symbols into groups of four. Categories can include anything from simple synonyms and cultural references to words starting with homonyms for birds.

There is only one correct answer. Connections often features red herrings and other gimmicks such as wordplay. You can make three mistakes, but a fourth spell is game over and the end of your current streak!

Categories are color coded. Yellow is supposed to be the easiest to understand, followed by green, blue and then purple. But it’s all relative Connections tests your knowledge and productive reasoning skills.

You can track your stats over time and earn badges for achievements like long streaks or hitting a reverse rainbow. This involves submitting the purple category first, followed by blue, green and yellow. I’m here to help players figure out which is which.

You can play Connections at NYT website or NYT Application for games. NYT Subscribers can access the complete archive of over 1,100 games Connections. Each day’s game is broadcast live at midnight local time.

  • SOPHIA
  • SOUND
  • BUTTON
  • BUBBLE TEA
  • Portobello
  • MENU
  • TRUMPET
  • ICON
  • ENUNCIATE
  • PIG
  • SACKS
  • BUZZING

  • ALEXA

A tip for today’s link groups

The tips for today Connections categories are:

  • 🟨 Yellow team – tell everyone
  • 🟩 Green team — make something happen, digitally
  • 🦶 Blue group — like a small piece of valuable information, a type of rice or bath salts
  • 🟪 Purple team — open the night with too many of these and it can be an early night

One response per connection group

Attention: we are starting to enter spoiler area.

Let’s take a look at one answer for each group.

So let’s go…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — SOMBETAS
  • 🟩 Green team — MENU
  • 🦄 Blue group — PIGS
  • 🟪 Purple team — LIVADI

Today’s Link Categories

Today’s Connections the teams are…

  • 🟨 Yellow team — announce
  • 🟩 Green team — things to click
  • 🦶 Blue group — related to pearls
  • 🟪 Purple group — starting with alcoholic beverages

What is the answer of today’s connections?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to learn today’s Connections answers.

This is your last chance to look away.

This is your last warning!

Today’s Connections the answers are…

  • 🟨 Yellow team — announce (BLARE, HERALD, SOUND, TRUMPET)
  • 🟩 Green group — things to click (BUTTON, ICON, LINK, MENU)
  • 🦶 Blue group — related to pearls (BUBBLE TEA, OYSTERS, PIGS, WISDOM)
  • 🟪 Purple group — starting with spirits (ALEXA, MEADOW, PORTOBELLO, SAKES)

I got the green and yellow in short order, only realizing afterwards that I had avoided the red herring with mushrooms.

The only thing that made sense to me with SAKES was “sake”, so I was able to get the purple ones next. Then, OYSTER and BUBBLE TEA helped me clinch the blue division for the 505th straight win.

How did you do this time? Here is my grid:

🟩
🨟🨟
🟪🟪
🦟

Want to know more about how it all fits together? Let’s explore today’s game in more depth in mine NYT links Answers Explained column. You can check it up visit my author page.

Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and the answer for tomorrow’s game Connections if you need them.

PS I really enjoyed watching Bloc Party the other day. They had graced a couple of headline dates while supporting Muse on a North American tour and it was clear that the band really enjoyed playing in front of their own fans here. Frontman Kele Okereke flashed a huge smile as the crowd belted out the lyrics to this song, “Banquet”. Another great piece, two decades later:

Good day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

Please follow my blog for more NYT links hints and help with other word games and even some video game news, information and analysis. I would really appreciate it because it helps me. If you share this column with others who play Connections, that would be great too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column and more of my writing in my newsletter, Hobby.
