Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses: what will the Samsung version look like?

A new leak has revealed what it claims are the smart glasses Samsung has said it’s working on. The new images show specs that look likely to see the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart models.

Design and high fashion collaborations

Like the Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta HSTN and Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, the Samsung model appears to have hidden speakers and no screen.

Also, like Meta, Samsung has said it will partner with fashion brands for its frames: where Meta has EssilorLuxotica, Samsung is partnering with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

“These are the Samsung Galaxy Glasses, which the company plans to announce later this year as its second Android XR product.” Android titles has been reported rather optimistically, along with images of what are said to be the new glasses.

The bezels look like conventional specs, with the thicker arms common in smart glasses to house the electronics, speakers and battery. There appears to be a camera on the outer edge of one lens with possibly a light on the other end to balance out the aesthetics. The light will likely be used to indicate when a photo or video is being taken.

The Tech Inside: Sony Sensors And Gemini AI

The camera, Android Headlines says, is a 12-megapixel sensor made by Sony — the same resolution as the Meta’s glasses.

According to the report, the glasses will use Android XR, the same system used in the Galaxy XR handsets, and will include Gemini, so the glasses “will let you ask Gemini to translate signs, take photos, ask about the weather, get directions using Google Mapsand many more. There’s no doubt about it, Gemini is definitely a much better AI than what Meta currently has. So this is where Samsung will really have a leg up on the competition,” he said.

Release date and future features

Much remains to be revealed. Bone conduction technology was mentioned in Samsung’s patents, but it’s unclear if this will be the only way sound will be transmitted to the user.

But he may not wait much longer. It is believed that the Google I/O event in May will be when the glasses will be talked about and perhaps they will be officially unveiled, although the big reveal will definitely happen at the next Galaxy Unpacked, which is expected later in the year.
