‘gen ATLAS’ is finally announced and it really reminds me of a Sandlot game.
Epic games
After the highly cryptic reveal a few years ago of Gen Design’s new game, it’s finally here and it’s called Gen. ATLAS.
Published by Epic Games, the game also uses Unreal Engine, which will really help streamline game development.
This is because games like The Last Guardian it had quite a painful development cycle due to technical issues with the game’s toolset, among many others.
As for this new game, it looks very interesting and definitely reminds me of the old days Sandlot games like Gigantic Drive on PlayStation 2.
Released outside of Japan as Robotic Alchemical Drivethe game had you controlling a huge and heavy mech from the perspective of a human, either on the ground or on the mech itself.
The big and heavy battles in the new trailer for Gen. ATLAS (shown below) really reminds me of fighting various large enemies Gigantic Drive.
The functionality of man on the ground and the mechanics themselves also seem more involved. With obviously new puzzle mechanics and shooting sections.
I also like the fact that the “head” of your mecha is a sort of interchangeable part that you can use on other massive mechs.
Of course, this type of massive character is not new Fumito Uedalike games Shadow of the Colossus you had climbed over giants to bring them down.
The other point worth mentioning is that it is possible that the design mechanism can be done by anyone else IZMOJUKI. Known for his industrial mechanical designs, his approach was a great fit for this game’s setting, and when the game was revealed, he post about it on X’s account.
In any case, I’m glad there’s another Fumito Ueda game on the way, as they always end up being rather magical experiences.
